“What makes a brother-sister relationship special is the way each one remembers the other when they are apart. They miss the talks, the laughs, and the time they spent together. Life changes, memories don’t.”

Amy sat with her brother that day, clutching his hand and trying not to cry.

“Mattie,” she whispered, pressing her lips to the back of his hand. “Mom’s getting sick. I-It’s nothing serious, I was just worried for a while, and I couldn’t call you to calm me down because you’re here, and you’re sick too. I miss you so much, Matt.”

A tear streaked down her cheek and she hurriedly brushed it away. “I-I’m sorry, I don’t mean to cry. I’ve cried enough already, I know.” She tried to smile, but couldn’t, and instead bit her lip. “I love you so much, Matt. I just want you to wake up and to come back and for everything to be okay. I miss you coming over and playing video games with me, or calling me just to see how I’m doing.”

The doctor entered the room, clipboard in hand. “Amy Sanders?”

She sighed and stood. “Visiting times are over?”

“I’m afraid so. You can come back tomorrow, though.”

Amy nodded. “I think I will.”
