Chapter 20

Kabir

Today is the party of my first project, that my parents are hosting. It's been months seen I have seen or heard Naina. Though sometimes I just wish that all this is dream and when I wake I'm still with her. I hope that today I will get to see her. My mom told me that they had invited them. Despite of our break-up, my parents maintained a nice relationship with them.

"Kabir are you ready?" My mom asked from downstairs
"Just a second, coming down." I tell her
I pick my tie and go down. I hand the tie to mom and tell her to help me.
"You're CEO of a company and still don't know how to wear a tie." My mom jokes and I smile at her.
"What will you do after you get married?" My mom question and my smile falls. I ignore that question and my mom just helps me with my tie.

Marriage was one thing that I had imagined with Naina. I know we were only on the early stages of our relationship but she was the one that brought happiness to my world other than my family. She was like the missing piece of my puzzle. Now that she is gone again from my life, that piece of puzzle was also lost with her.

"Is she coming today?" My mom asks breaking my thoughts
"I don't know, Is she coming?" I ask her back
"Your tie is done." My mom pats my chest and leaves.
"She definitely is coming today." I smile to myself

We reach the hotel where the party was being held. It was one of Jai's hotel. My dad looks at me as I check all the arrangements.
"What happened?" I ask my dad
"Nothing just proud of you."
My dad pats my shoulder but I hug him tight.
"If your son-dad conversation is ended, please come with me to welcome our guest." My mom calls us and Rishabh just laughs at us.
I mock him and go to welcome our guest.

I feel her before I see her.
"Something wrong?" Jai asks me
"No." I tell him
But when I turn to other direction to see if she really came. Naina had just entered the hall with her parents and siblings. She is looking so different in the saree. This is the first time I have seen her in saree.
"Isn't she looking beautiful?" Aditi asks me
"So beautiful." I tell her
It just clicked me what I said and I look at Aditi with a smile.
"Jai, keep your girlfriend away from me." I tell me
He just laughs at me and pulls her to his side.
"Did you two decided to wear saree?" I ask Aditi
"It's a formal event, so her mom told her to wear that and I just gave her company." She answered
"Babe, you look beautiful." Jai compliments her.
I stop the urge of rolling my eyes at them.

"I would like to invite the star of the night on the stage." My dad announced
My dad praised my work to which I felt little shy. During this my eyes only searched for Naina. Naina's eyes were already on mine. She smiled at me. My whole body felt a warmth and my heart started to beat faster.
My dad asked me share my journey. I shared my journey and got a applause from everyone.

"Can we have some music please?" My dad asks on the mic
They play soft music at first.
"All the men please come on the floor and have a dance with their beloved once." My dad announced
I see all the couples coming on the stage and having a dance. I also see Jai and Aditi in a corner.
"Can I have a dance with you?" A random girl asked
"Sorry, I don't dance." I decline her politely.

I remember our dance at the beach, the first time where I told her my feelings to her.
I see Naina form the corner of her eye. She is watching her parents dancing and a small smile on her face. Aarav drags her to the dance floor. I wait for the song to finish.
"May I have a dance?" I ask them holding my hand out.
"She is all yours." Aarav says and put Naina's hand on mine.
I put my hand around her waist and bring her closer.
"Hi." I whisper gently
"Hi"
"You look so beautiful." I compliment her and a blush appears on her cheeks
"You also look handsome today." She compliments back
"I thought you weren't coming today." I tell her as we dance
"Why would you think that I wasn't coming?" She asks
"Because of what happened last time we met." I answer because I didn't want to get that specific word out.
"I'm so proud of you today." Naina says ignoring my previous words
"You are?" I ask her
She nod her head.
"I have seen you work so hard, even when you were you always had time for me."
"I still have time for you." I cut her
"Why is that girl glaring us?" Naina asks
"Who?" I question
I look at her gaze where is pointing and see a girl.
I chuckle after looking at that girl.
"Something wrong?" She asks confusingly
"No, that girl asked me for a dance but I denied telling her that I don't dance and now I'm here dancing with you." I tell
"You're so evil." Naina says
I notice that Naina is still wearing the pendent that I gave her.
"Why did you cut your hair?" I aks her
"I wanted a change." She answers and puts her hand behind my neck, that were earlier on my shoulder and pulls me closer. I feel a warmth in my heart.

"May I cut in?" I groan when I recognize that voice.
Naina lets go her arm that were secured on my neck. Her eyes doesn't meet me. She is blushing and looking down at the floor. Like we got caught doing something illegal. I still had my hand on Naina's waist
"No" I answer
"Yes" Naina says
"You heard the lady!" Jai teases.
I left Naina and leave the dance floor.
I watch Naina and Jai from afar talking and laughing.

From the corner of my eyes I see the same girl approaching me whom I had rejected. Before she can reach near me. Aditi came in front of me.
"Shall we dance?" Aditi asks and grabs my hand and pulls me towards the dance floor.
"Are you that jealous?" She asks me when we reach the dance floor.
"What?" I question and my hand on her waist
"I saw the glares that you were giving to my boyfriend." She explains
"Now he is your boyfriend, what about the friend that introduced you two?" I question and raise my eyebrows at her
"You will always be my friend, don't worry about that." She says and puts her hand on my shoulder.
"She does miss you." Aditi says after sometime
"I also miss her so much." I tell her
"Will she come back to me?" I question her
"She will, just give her sometime." She answer
"You know something that I don't." I ask her
"Maybe." She answers
We dance for a while until Jai comes back for his girlfriend.

My parents and Naina's parents decided that they should head home. It's only us youngsters. All the guest left the party after the dinner. Jai and Aditi are slow dancing on some music. Aarav, Ananya and Rishabh are playing game on their mobile.

I enter the balcony of the hall. I see her standing there enjoying the breeze. I stand behind her without saying anything.
The breeze started to feel a little chilly, so I slip my coat and put on her shoulder, I know she can't handle the cold.
"Thanks." She says
Standing behind her, I just want to grab her waist and pull her towards me.
"Your hair looks different when they are short" I say
"Good different or bad different?" She questions
"Good different, but I liked your hair when they were longer." I answer
"Don't worry they will grow back." She jokes
"Naina, Can yo-"
"Kabir please, let's not ruin our mood by discussing the past." She interrupts me
Naina starts to leave when I hold her hand.
"Please stay for a while." I plead
We both stay there for a while.
"I really liked your hair." I tell her again
"Really?" she ask and I nod
"They will grow back soon." She says and I laugh
"How is your project going?" I ask
"It's near to it's end, just have pick some pieces for the project." She explains
We talk for some more time. It felt like old days.

After some time I feel Naina grip my bicep for support and her other hand on railing.
"Are you okay?" I ask her
Before she could answer her head falls on my shoulder.
I keep my hand on her waist for support.
Naina passed out on my shoulder.
"Naina?" I call her, try to pat her cheek but nothing works.
"Shit!"
I carry her in my arms and ran out of the balcony.

Naina fainted.
