Chapter 10

Kabir

"Good morning, Sir." My receptionist greets me. I just nod at her.
Today we have an important meeting with the Ahuja's and at any cost I want the tender.
I reach my floor and head towards my cabin.
"Good morning sir, Here is your coffee." Yash my assistant greets me and give me my coffee.
"Good morning sir, The meeting with Ahuja's will start in hour sir."
"Okay, Call me when they are here." I tell him and enter my cabin.
Today Naina was sad because of her parents going to banglore. Seeing her sad I also feel sad. I just want see her smiling and the cute dimples that appears when she smiles.
I smile at the thought of it.
Yash knocks at my door
"Come in." I say
"Sir, Mr. Ahuja is waiting for you in conference room."
"Okay tell them I will be there in five minutes." I tell him
I take my coat and head towards the conference room.
"Good morning, Mr. Ahuja." I greet him with shaking his hand.
"Good morning, Mr. Singhania." he greets me back
"So what is your proposal for this tender?" he asks me
I open my presentation and explain my proposal and scheme to him. He was pretty impress with me and my company about the proposal and the scheme. He told me that he will me his answer within 2-3 days. If we get this tender it would be very profitable for the company.
The meeting was extended till 4:30. The meeting took a long time to finish. I tell Yash that he can go home. I also get ready to go to Naina's college to pick her.
I stop my car near her college entrance. I see everyone coming out of college. Seeing them I start to remember my college days and a small smile comes to my lips. I ts nearly 5:20 where is Naina.
She is never this late may be lecture must have extended. I see the college students nearly disappearing. I see Aditi and Aarya coming out of the college but I don't see Naina with them. Where is she?
I get out of my car and go near them
"Aditi, Aarya, Wait." I call them
"Kabir?" they both say
"Hi, Is Naina not with you?"
"No, she left early to go home. Didn't she called you?" Aditi asks me
"No, actually I was in a meeting and my phone was on silent."
I check my phone but there was no missed call or a message from Naina. I say them goodbye and start my car.
I reach the apartment. I hurriedly take the lift and press the button to my floor.
I ring the bell to Naina's penthouse. It was Aarav who opened.
"Hi Aarav, Is Naina Home?"
"Yes she should be in her bedroom. Can you please check her for she has not come out of her room." he asks
"Okay, where is it?" I ask him
"Upstairs, Second door to your right." He tells me
I knock the door but she doesn't opens.
"Naina?" I call her
"Baby, please open the door."
"You're scaring me please open the door."
"It's open you can come in." Comes a small voice from inside.
I open the door and see her sitting on a corner of her room. Her legs were near her chest and she was shaking.
"Naina?" I call her
"What happened talk to me." I tell her
When she open eyes they were bloodshot red, puffy. She was crying don't know for how long. I crouch down to her level. Remove her hands from her knee, Take her warm hands in my cold hand.
"What happened?" I ask her softly
She just launch at me hugs me tightly and cry more.
"It's ok. Tell me what happened?" I gently caress her hair
"It's just I'm missing mom and dad so much." she cries more
"Nothing more?" I ask
She shakes her as negative.
I know that Naina is hiding something but I won't push her. She would tell me sometime later.
"I called you tell you that I left college early, but your cellphone was out of reach." she tells me
"Yes I was busy with a meeting. I'm sorry that it was out of reach." I tell her
"Naina, you're burning hot." I tell her as I touch her forehead.
She removes herself from me and tries to get up but she doesn't have any strength.
I carry her in bride style and put her on the bed. I adjust her pillow and cover her with the blanket. I kiss her forehead and tell her sleep.
"Stay with me?" she asks
"I'm just downstairs, I will make you soup or something." I tell her
"You know na that you can't cook?" She raises her eyebrow at me.
"Does Anaya knows how to make it?" I ask her
"Yes, If she is busy you can ask Aarav he can make you a soup." she tells me
"Does everyone in your family know how to cook?"
"Not everyone, Bhai and Papa cannot cook."
"You take rest. I'll be back soon." I tell her and kiss her forehead before going
"Is she okay?" Aarav asks me as he sees me
"No, she is burning down with fever."
"Did you check her temperature?"
"No, I didn't know where it was."
"I will go back and check her temperature. Can you make some soup for her?"
"Okay. It will ready in 15-20 minutes."
I reach Naina's room and ask her where the thermometer is.
I check her temperature.
"Is it very high?"
"No, just 101°C. but you still need to rest."
"What about the dinner? Aarav can't cook whole food."
"We can get a take-away or order a pizza."
"But-"
"You're getting a rest and that's final and no college for you tomorrow."
"Kabir." she whines
I hear a knock at the door.
"Are you guys decent? Can we come in?" Aarav ask
"Yes, you can come in."I say and laugh at his question while Naina just hit my shoulder. I give her a 'What' look.
Aarav and Anaya both enter the room.
"Hi di, How are feeling?" Aarav asked
"Not bad, just a sore throat and my body is paining."
"Here is your soup, drink it and get some rest." Anaya says and hands me the soup
"What about your dinner?" She asks
"We ordered pizza."
"Is it okay with you kabir?" Anaya asks
I nod. They both take leave.
"Can you feed me the soup?" Naina asks innocently
I just smile and feed her soup. She makes different faces while drinking the soup.
"Uhh! it's tasteless." She whines
"It's not tasteless, its just your taste buds are responding." I tell her
She makes funny faces and finishes the soup. Her eyelids became heavy. I again adjust her pillow and her blanket.
"Sleep well baby." I kiss her forehead
"Won't you stay?" she whispers
"You want me to stay?" I ask her
She nods her head happily. I smile at her.
I sit beside her. She cuddles with me and rests her head on my chest. I happily caresses her hair and she falls asleep.
The sun rays fall on my face. I open my eyes to see Naina is sleeping peacefully on my chest. My neck and hand is paining due to the uncomfortable position I slept in. I carefully put Naina on her pillow an try to get up. I check the timing its 9 in the morning. I have never slept so late. I inform my secretary that I won't be coming today and if it was something important or urgent then only he should call or inform me. I left Naina's room to get fresh. I get downstairs to see Anaya and Aarav eating breakfast.
"Good morning." I greet them
"Good morning." they say
"Did you slept well?" Aarav asks with a smirk on his face
"Yes."
"We came to call you for dinner but you were sleeping peacefully. So we didn't wanna wake you up."
"Come eat breakfast, its ready." Anaya tells me
"You serve the breakfast I'll just get fresh up and will join you shortly."
I go back to my apartment and get freshen up and wear my usual clothes.
"Naina what are you doing downstairs?" I ask her
"You were not there and I was hungry."
"Okay."
"Are not going to the office?"
"No, I'm gonna take care of you because Anaya and Aarav have there college today."
"But your office-"
"Is not important than you. my persons can handle it tell her." She just sighs and eats her breakfast.
After eating the breakfast me and Naina just cuddle and some of her favourite movies.
At evening I get a call and I pick up without checking it.
"Hello." I say
"Good evening, Mr. Singhania, It's Mr. Ahuja here."
"Good evening sir. How can I help you?" I say finally waking up from my nap.
I see Naina peacefully her temperature is little down.
"Mr. Singhania you still there?" he asks
"Yes, I'm here sir."
"Well, I have called you to inform you that our company is interested in giving you the contract."
"Really?"
"I mean thank you sir. For giving me the opportunity. Me and my company will not disappoint you."
"We will sign the contract on Monday. If that's okay with you?"
"Yes, Yes sir that's fine with me." I say
I cut the call.
"Kabir? What happened?" Naina's voice come from behind
"Did you remember I told you that I was having a very important client coming and how there contract was important for us?" I asked her
"Yes." She whispers in her sleepy voice
"Well I got that contract."
"I'm so happy for you. I would have hugged you if I wasn't sick." She tells
"It's okay, you take rest." I tell her to rest
We talk for sometime and I tell her how excited  I'm about this contract. I keep talking and talking until I hear some small snores from my beside. I see Naina sleeping on my shoulder.
I kiss side of her head and make her sleep on her pillow. I hope she feels better tomorrow.
I also fall asleep beside her, thinking about the coming monday.
