Aidan's POV:

The backyard of the house next to ours was pleated with pretty flowers of all different types.

The elderly lady that lives there loves gardening so much, she cares for all of her flowers and plants as if they were her children.

I've seen her handle the flowers with so much care that one might think it would break if you use too much force.

However, my attention was not on the pretty flowers. My attention was mostly on my thoughts.

Don't get me wrong. The garden was pretty but my parents were number one on my list of things to think about.

To put it simply, I was not expecting any of that. I was prepared for the worst but that was... Surprising.

I'm pretty sure that I was not the only one thinking that. Ellie is probably in on the art room and Jake was probably interrogating his dad about the subject.

I sighed and leaned back on my window seat.

I have no idea what to feel or what to think.

What my parents did, was to protect me and Ellie. But then Ellie was adopted by a couple  where she was abused to no ends because the people didn't want her but the money she would bring.

I don't know if I can forgive them for that.

But they didn't know it will happen.

I know that, but they could have take me and Ellie with them. At least that way all the trouble would have been avoided.

I find out that my mom and dad are still alive, the reason why they faked their death in the first place is because we were about to get killed, my adopted dad is my uncle which makes Jake my cousin.

All of that could have been avoided if they had just taken us with them.

My train of thought was cut off when the door of my room opened.

Ellie stuck her head through the gap. "Mind if I come in?" She asked.

I shook my head and looked out the window. I could hear as she took steps towards where I was sitting.

She sat down in front of me and pulled her knees up, wrapping her arms around her shins.

We fell into silence as we both looked or do the window to the flower garden. We both could knew the question we both wanted to ask each other but didn't know how.

"I saw Lucy before I came here." Ellie started, catching my attention. "She said I would have to stay in your room for the time being until they clear out the attic. For mom and dad."

I nodded, not saying anything.

"Are you okay?" She asked.

I sighed. "Yeah... I'm okay."

"But you don't know what to feel." Ellie finished for me. "I know that. I didn't know what to think as well."

I looked at her. "Didn't know?"

"Yeah... I..." She sighed. "I don't want to hold a grudge against them for something they had no control over. No one can predict the future. They didn't know I would be adopted by a couple like that one."

"I know that but-" She cut me off.

"But what Aidan? You know exactly why they had to fake their deaths. What is there more to ask?"

"The fact that maybe... They could have taken us with them as well. At least that way it would have been better." I said.

Ellie sighed and leaned back on the window seat.
