Ellie's POV:

A magnificent palace like hotel stood ahead of us. All of us - the teens - gaped at beauty of the place.

Greenery greeted us as soon as we stepped out of the car.

Endless green, perfectly trimmed, grass was on both sides of the walkway. Right at the front, was the hotel where the gala would be held.

Right on the middle, where most of the cars were being parked, stood a large water fountain. Water was rushing down the fountain in a satisfying manner.

As we started to walk forward, the exterior of the hotel became a lot more prominent than before.

The entrance itself screamed luxury.

The archway of the hotel was lifted up on two large columns. I smiled as I recognized the order of the columns.

The doors were made of glass with white translucent designs on it. Right beside the door was a podium where a person was standing checking the invites of people before letting them in.

Everyone around here had their masks on. They were all standing in a queue waiting for their turn.

I was snapped out of my thoughts when a man come to us with a big smile and said, "Steve! How good it is to see you again."

Steve also smiled at him. "Hey."

He was wearing a royal blue tuxedo with a white button down shirt underneath. He was also wearing a black mask.

Because of his mask I couldn't see his face. From what I could see he had an oval face, dark brown eyes, and brown hair. He looked about in his early forties.

I would have thought that he was Steve's colleague and didn't think much about him. But I did because this man seemed familiar. It wasn't only me who noticed that. Aidan also narrowed his eyes trying to decipher who he is.

If he only removed his mask.

He turned to Lucy and said, "Long time no see."

"I would say it's your fault." Lucy replied. The man laughed but didn't say anything.

He then noticed at all of us behind Steve and Lucy. His smile widen and looked back at Steve again.

"You brought company." He said.

Steve nodded.

I don't know why, but I felt like that small interaction held a lot more meaning than they're letting on.

"Oh good, good. Come on the party is waiting inside." He said as he nodded his head to the door and started to go inside.

Steve and Lucy started to follow him inside and made a conversation with him as they went.

The rest of us shared a look all of us thinking the same question. Who is he?

"Does anyone know that guy?" Connor did everyone the favor of asking it out loud.

"Connor, if we did, don't you think we would have greeted the man?" Jake asked him.

Connor thought it over for a second then nodded. "That could be possible."

He was holding Beth in his arms who was watching the whole ordeal with a frown. Seeing that the man and Steve have left, she pulled Connor's ear hard making him wince.

"Are we going in or not?" She asked us.

Their parents did want to come for some personal reasons so they only sent Connor and her.
