Ellie's POV:

I couldn't sleep at night. I had this constant nagging feeling in my chest that something bad was about to happen.

After about an hour of tossing and turning in bed, I got up and went downstairs to the backyard to clear my head.

I sat down on one of the chairs outside enjoying the cool air around me.

The backyard had two chairs on the patio with a table on the middle. The patio wasn't that big so Lucy decided to just make it like how it was on the porch.

I snapped out of my thoughts when I heard the back door open and Aidan's voice asked, "Ellie? What are you doing out here?"

I looked at him and replied, "I couldn't sleep. What about you?"

He sighed and ran his hand down his face and said, "I couldn't sleep either."

"Well then. If we both are in the same position here, we should sit down and talk about anything that comes to mind." I said.

Aidan smiled as he shook his head. "I just came down for a drink. Wait here. I'll be back."

He went inside and left me alone outside.

I couldn't help but think about how my life had changed just because I decided that escaping from a marriage proposal was the best option.

Every time I look back at myself, I can't help but feel like a weakling. I wasn't able to stand up to John or Rosie.

They had me believed a lie and I was so stupid to not listen to Mrs. Lee when she told me the truth.

I wish she wasn't fired when she was because of doing so. She was the only person I trusted and felt comfortable around, until I met Aidan of course.

She was such a kind and wonderful woman. She was there to witness some of the scoldings I got and always saved me from them.

I wish that she was there to witness and help me when... Don't go there.

"Hey." Aidan said as he sat down next to me on the bench in the backyard, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I smiled as I looked at him. "Hey."

He was holding two cups in his hand and passed one to me saying, "I came down to make this but since you're here too, I made one for you as well."

I took it from him and looked at the brown liquid inside.

"What is it?" I asked.

"Hot chocolate. Try it. It's good." I took a few sips of the hot chocolate before nodding my head in agreement.

"So... Do you want to tell me what you were thinking about?" He asked.

I looked him in surprise.

"You looked to be in thought before I came back here. What were you thinking about?" He elaborated.

"Um... Nothing of importance." I dismissed.

He was about to ask more questions when we heard someone say, "Aidan! Ellie! Why are you both still up? You both have school tomorrow."

We both looked up to see Steve standing in the balcony holding his phone in his hand.

"We couldn't sleep." I replied.

"Can you at least have tried?" He asked.

"Been there, done that. Not helpful. So we decided to get something to drink from downstairs." Aidan said.
