Evangeline decided that even though she was away from home that she couldn't help but admire and enjoy her surroundings. Tamlin seemed nervous though and sat awkwardly as they waited for the fae Rhysand to come back. They sat in a living room, full of bright lights and fancy furniture. Abstract paintings hung on the wall and a vase full of vibrant flowers brought a homely touch to the room. It was quite nice.

She and Tamlin sat together on one of the couches. Across from them on another couch sat a tall male that had little shadows floating around him and a shorter female with silver eyes and short black hair. By the door stood another male who was really tall and had long dark hair. Even though they all were glowering at Tamlin Evangeline could tell they weren't going to harm them.

Evangeline heard footsteps coming closer and watched as Rhysand and a tall blond female in a red dress came into the room. Rhysand stood with his arms crossed and glared at Tamlin. The female looked from Tamlin to Evangeline and Evangeline could see the shock in her eyes. Evangeline shifted in her seat and looked away, fixing her gaze on one of the paintings on the wall.

"Tamlin, we have decided that for now, you can stay in the Night Court," Rhysand said. Evangeline felt Tamlin shift in his seat and turned to look back at Rhysand to find her staring at him.

"We would also like to speak with the girl," Rhysand said.

Nervous Evangeline twirled her fingers through her hair. Rhysand didn't stop looking at her.

"I think that's fair," Tamlin said. "But I'm not leaving her alone with all of you."

Everyone turned to look at Tamlin and he sat up straight. Evangeline sighed and stood up, brushing off her dress.

"What do you want to talk about?" she asked, directing her question to Rhysand.

"I'll get to that, for now, you can follow me," he said and walked out the door. Evangeline looked at Tamlin before following Rhysand. She heard footsteps behind her but didn't turn back, keeping her eyes on Rhysand. He led them to a room that had a large round table with chairs seated all around it. He stood beside one and pulled out a chair for Evangeline. She sat and Rhysand sat beside her. On her other side, Tamlin sat down. The silver-eyed female was the last to enter the room and she sat across from Evangeline, looking at her blankly. Evangeline looked away from her and kicked her legs nervously.

"You say you are from another world, correct?" Rhysand said. Evangeline nodded. "Feyre managed to contact me briefly, and said that she is with a queen named Aelin and her court, are they familiar to you?"

"Yes, that's my auntie," Evangeline said. "My adopted parents, Lysandra and Aedion, are a part of her court."

"How did you get into our world?" Rhysand asked.

"Well, one day I was playing in the gardens at Lord Darrow's estate because he was watching me while my parents were on their wedding vacation," Evangeline said. "Then I found this black hole. It smelled like roses, but I wasn't even in the rose garden. It was about the size of one of those paintings back in the room we were just in, but circular. Then I got too curious and crawled through and ended up in Tamlin's court."

"That was it?" Rhysand said.

"Yep!" Evangeline said and Tamlin nodded in affirmation.

Rhysand sighed and ran a hand through his hair.

"Do you have any idea how we may be able to see through your world?" he asked.

"I don't know," Evangeline said. "My auntie told stories about her throughout the war and how she used the Wyrdkeys to close the gate between worlds. I don't see how it's possible because the last time she went through worlds was when she was falling through them after she destroyed the gods."

Rhysand shared and look with the silver-eyed female and she shrugged.

"Do you know anything else?" he asked.

"Well, my aunt and Manon used a witch mirror to peer into the past, maybe another world. I wasn't there most of the time," Evangeline said with a shrug.

Rhysand pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. "Thank you for your help," he said sadly. He stood up and headed towards the door. "I'll have Mor show you to your room before dinner."

Evangeline got up quickly and rushed towards Rhysand and grabbed his hand. Startled he looked down at her.

"Will I ever be able to go home?" she asked. He gave her a sad smile.

"I hope so," he said and walked out of the room.

Dinner was really loud. It reminded her of the times back at home where everyone would tease and bicker with one another, along with laughing and joking around. Evangeline picked at her food, pushing it around on her plate. Tamlin had barely eaten a thing before excusing himself. Evangeline felt alone.

A fae with light brown hair sat down beside Evangeline and Evangeline perked up. The fae held a baby in her arms who she carefully said in the chair beside her, which was specially fitted for the baby. She gave Evangeline and a small smile and helped herself to the food on the table.

Evangeline looked at the baby. He looked suspiciously like Dorian with his dark hair and ice-blue eyes. The baby sneezed and little ice particles froze on his face. The fae sighed and wiped his face with a cloth napkin.

"Is that your child?" Evangeline asked the fae. The fae let out a short laugh and shook her head.

"Goodness no," she said. "This is my sister Feyre's child, the stuck one in your world. Rhysand wants me to look after him for now."

"Oh," Evangeline said. She picked at her food some more before turning back to the fae. "You're really pretty. What's your name?"

The fae blushed. "I'm Elain."

"Why do you sit at this end at the table?" Evangeline asked. This end of the table only sat her and Elain, while everyone else sat together at the other end, talking loudly.

"I have trouble getting along easily with all of them. Plus their arguing agitates Kairyn."

They ate in silence for a few more minutes before Elain turned back to Evangeline.

"I noticed the flowers in your hair," Elain said. "Do you like gardening?"

"Sure, and I enjoy running through gardens," Evangeline replied.

"Well, maybe you could help me in the garden tomorrow, and play with Kai," Elain said. "Let the grown-ups deal with everything and take a break."

Evangeline smiled brightly at Elain. "I would love that!"
