Twenty-Nine

I saw Matt walking towards the bus that afternoon. There was a burning sensation in my stomach; to walk up and hit him, to yell at him for taking my best friend away.

A friend of his walked up beside him, and the two went into an in depth conversation about something I couldn't hear.

My phone buzzed in my pocket, and I read the text from my mom reminding me to get dinner started when I got home.

Matt turned in the direction of his bus, waving towards his friend as they both went in opposite directions.

Does he remember how he made Tina felt?

Does he remember what he meant to her?

Is he aware her whole world rides on him now, for approval, for someone to love her?

The burning turned into a sizzling grip on my stomach, and with each step I took in the other direction, I wondered if I had made the right choice.
