Delilah

The sound of the piano caused me to close my eyes to ease my nerves before they opened to see Junior and my mother's bewildered expression, then my father's causing my stomach to churn at the sight. But I couldn't back down now... so I didn't, instead, I smiled at my father's expression before I sent Raheem and the band my cue to play the upbeat tune.

And if my father wasn't shocked before, he surely was now as most of the choir began to dance around me.

"Carlos and Carmen Vidal just had a child
A lovely girl with a crooked smile
Now they gotta split 'cause the Bronx ain't fit
For a kid to grow up in
Let's find a place they say, somewhere far away
With no blacks, no Jews and no gays" the crowd began to dance in reaction and Stevie the wonder boy stood from his seat, my hand then reaching out to guide him beside me.

He was the blind boy with the wonderful voice.

" Poppy and the family left the dirty streets
To find a quiet place overseas
And year after year the kid has to hear
The do's and don'ts and the dears
And when she's ten years old she digs that rock 'n' roll
But Poppy bans it from the home."

The music had swept me away from my surroundings and during the moments of me singing my heart out, I completely disregarded my father's reaction.

I was tired of him holding me back from living life, it was then and there that I realized that the key to being free was me... it was all in me.

" Baby, she turns out to be a natural freakGaining weight and losing sleepAnd when she's sweet sixteen she packs her things and leavesWith a man, she met on the streetCarmen starts to bawl, bangs her head to the wallToo much love is worse than non...

The energy was incapable of describing. People were throwing themselves out in the audience in holy fits at the power of my voice. At the moment I was free, getting a sneak peek of my wildest dreams.

I shouted the lyrics in uncontrollable fits of praise for I just couldn't help myself, I didn't know what was going on with me – What had come over me. But everything that I kept bottled up inside of me just spilled out, creating such great passion in me. I felt every word make tingles run down my spine and pound at my heart.

I was living in complete and utter euphoria. I felt on top of the world. Only God knew the amount of happiness that filled me right now.

Raheem cheered me on as I began to dance with various people in the choir.

Alyssa and Valentina then approaching me, talking my ears off and rambling in shock as they danced with me.

" I can't believe this, Delilah Oh my god girl your voice is amazing! " Valentina squealed as we continued to dance to the break down of the song. This was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Everyone was dancing... well everyone except my father. But he was a mad man if he couldn't realize the joy everyone was experiencing. Even the Jones family seemed to be enjoying themselves, but it wasn't until the sight of a familiar man in the large crowd that caused me to stop my movements.

My heart dropped at an instant. " Oh my god Tina, Alyssa. That's Bobby! That's Bobby Coleman in the crowd look! " I began to panic, watching as he clapped along to the beat.

Thee Bobby Coleman was enjoying my song.

" Shit – I mean shoot! That is him! " Alyssa exclaimed along with me before telling me to calm down and pull myself together. But this was a big-time record label owner, that's standing behind so many successful artists.

I could just faint right about now, but Alyssa then snapped me out of it once again and I eventually pulled myself together before I stepped back to my spot to sing the final part. Glaring at my father before I grabbed the mic– feeling so much power for once.

"Carlos and Carmen Vidal just had a child
A lovely girl with a crooked smile
Now they gotta split 'cause the Bronx ain't fit
For a kid to grow up in
Let's find a place they say, somewhere far away
With no blacks, no Jews and no gays." I finished, letting the choir take over the stage for I began to break into a dance of my own as I stepped down the stairs and joined the crowd.

I flipped my hair as I smiled and sang gleefully for I did this for me... not to please him. He just couldn't accept that music was a form of art... a form of expressing myself.

My movements stopped as the music continued playing towards nothingness, and with a smile, I glanced around at the people applauding me ... until I finally snapped back to reality when noticing the rage in my father's eyes as he stood amongst the cheering crowd.

I hope this chapter wasn't confusing. It's hard to incorporate a performance and everything, but I hope you enjoyed.
