Chapter 17

"Past relationships, go!" Kyle cries, squeezing my hand that was laced with his in the middle of the table.

We're at a restaurant in a very small town nearby, not wanting to be in Arlington right now. It's our 'escape' day, as some will call it. Our phones are turned off and so far no one has bothered us, paparazzi included. Kyle is only wearing his glasses to hide his identity, nothing else.

Is this considered a date? Who knows. Sure, we've kissed twice and we hold hands and all that couple stuff, but there isn't a label. Even though it's weird for me, I actually don't mind not having a label on whatever this is. A friendship, a relationship, whatever. As long as I get to be with Kyle.

"Uh," I hesitate, "I've had two boyfriends. One was in fifth grade, so technically it didn't really count. And we dated for like a week. Oh, but he did kiss me on the cheek once.

"Damn," Kyle teases, "you picked a bad boy."

"Shush, he was really sweet. His name was Henry and he had the coolest flip phone around town."

"Sounds like quite the panty dropper," Kyle muses.

I hum in agreement. "That is until he broke my heart." I smile before taking a sip of my drink, reminiscing on the days with Henry.

Kyle laughs, "how dare he! Did Trent give him an ass whooping?"

"No," I answer, "actually no one could blame him for breaking up with me. I, uh, I got jealous of his cubby partner and cut her hair."

Kyle's jaw drops and he lets out a breathy laugh, covering his mouth with his hand to hide his amusement. I laugh as well, mostly because I love laughing with him.

"You cut her hair?" he asks in exasperation.

"Yeah," I sigh. "So, after that incident, the whole middle school era I was left boyfriend-less. Then came high school and Rory."

"How long did you date?"

"Beginning of freshman year all the way to junior year," I inform and take a forkful of my macaroni & cheese.

Kyle's eyes widen, obviously surprised by the length that I dated Rory. Two years is a long time and our relationship was serious.

"He was a year older and ended it mutually, I guess. I missed him for a large portion of my junior year, but I've gotten over it now that he's in college and has definitely moved on," I say and rub the palm of his hand with my thumb.

"Have you?" he questions and takes a sip of his drink. His eyes aren't at my face, they're at our connected hands as he sits in thought.

"No shit, Sherlock," I joke, smiling at him. He should know by now that I like him, I've straight up said it to him.

He smiles modestly, looking down at the table in the most adorable way. It's odd how I'm the one taking charge and admitting my feelings first, something I hadn't done in any previous relationships- if you count Henry's. I'm so comfortable with Kyle that it doesn't seem to matter.

"Language," he warns teasingly.

I stick out my tongue before asking, "what about you? Relationships? Or were they all flings?"

"Mostly flings. I'm always moving around with different filming locations and whatnot."

"Top three celebrity flings, go!" I yell, mimicking him from early.

He laughs lightly before biting his lip in concentration. I don't know if he realizes how attractive I find that, but I manage to stay on topic.

"Miley Cyrus, Cara Delevingne, and," he pauses and runs a hand down his face in deep thought, "and Rachel McAdams."
