------Bennie's POV-------
The next few weeks proved to be even more difficult than the ones leading to my arrival. I took notice of how...well known my mate was. At first it was nothing more than an occasional greeting but it began to escalate into more than that. It was safe to say that I was jealous, most of his acquaintances were female Lycans. I still was unsure of where our relationship stood and it seemed to me that when others were around, he became distant.

This morning was no different.

"Hey Bryce, it's good to see you again." A female purred at him during our lunch hour shared with the rest of the pack.

"You too Amber, see you around." He smiled kindly at her and they began a conversation, I watched his eyes rake the female up and down as if she were the very food we were piling on our plates.

I turned to find a seat outside and turned back to ask Bryce where he thought we should sit but when I turned around I found he was already taking a seat with Amber. No matter, I thought, I would just find a place to sit near Bryce.

The rest of the pack was piling in and I was trying to find a way to sit near Bryce but soon his table was crowded and I could feel that I was unwelcome.

I wandered around with my plate until I found an empty table near the fields and walked towards it. I was used to solace anyway.

"Hey are you lost?" A voice spoke suddenly, startling me momentarily.

I turned to face him and took note of his curly black hair, tied away from his face. His chest was as broad as my mate's and he held himself with distinction. His eyes were green but when I looked closer it looked as if there were little flecks of violet dancing in them. He didn't hold my gaze for very long.

I took notice of the way people examined us as he spoke to me and I pushed the food around my plate with my fork before answering.

"It's complicated?" I tried and he chuckled, setting his plate down across from me.

"That wasn't very convincing, you don't seem like the type of girl who has 'complications'."

He smiled as he sat down, opening up his water bottle and examining everything just as I was.

I looked around and watched as people conversed, ate food or just listened to music, the scene was serene and peaceful, the noise of the picnic soon became a lull and I felt very calm.

"So are you new here? I don't believe we've ever had the pleasure of meeting." He questioned after having a bite of his food.

"I'm with house Lican, my family and I are visiting. I'm Bennie," I introduced myself and he nodded and took a sip from his water bottle.

"There are too many mortals around here, I never know if there's anyone ever around who isn't like us so I like to ask first before assuming."

I nodded. "I understand, I recently went to the carnival and noticed there were many mortals around."

"They can certainly be sneaky, but they aren't unbearable." This I laughed at and he looked surprised.

"What? I don't hold a large distaste for them, it's just that having to hide all the time...it's quite difficult after some time." He shrugged and I nodded.

"I understand more than you'd think." I replied.

We were quiet for a while before he spoke again.

"So have you found a mate?"

Before I could answer I was pulled from my seat and Bryce's hand was tightly wrapped around my arm.

"What are you doing here, half breed?" He spat.
