"Hiya," I smiled letting Melanie my midwife inside.

"Hello love, how are you feeling?" she asked.

"I'm good thank you, would you like a hot drink?"

"Yeah, a coffee would be great. Thanks."

I went through to the kitchen and filled the cup from the freshly boiled kettle. Melanie has been round so many times now I've learnt what she likes to drink and how she likes to drink it.

"Lovely," she smiled sitting down.

I joined her on the couch and watched as she opened her folder ready to start.

"Have you had any problems?" she asked.

"No, he's very active though."

"That's fine. How are you feeling in yourself?"

"I'm well, I've just had trouble sleeping."

"Okay, is that stress related?"

"No, it's nothing like that. It's the usual pregnancy symptoms keeping me up."

"Not to worry, I can give you something," she smiled.

"Sleeping tablets?"

"More of a calmer."

"Oh," I mumbled.

"They're not harmful to you or your baby. They will help you relax and drift into a natural sleep, you need as much sleep as possible now you're getting closer to the birth."

"I know. I'm not a fan of this type of medication but I'll give them a go."

"If you don't get along with them there will be other options," she assured.

She gave me a quick once over before continuing our chat.

"Are you preparing for your birth?"

"Not just yet, we will arrange it soon though."

"It's best to be prepared. Have you decided on a birthing partner?"

"Yeah, I have," I lied.

"That's great. Well everything seems great here so if theres no more questions I'll leave you to it."

"No that's it. Thanks a lot, I'll see you soon."

"No problem, remember I'm just a phone call away," she smiled.

I haven't got around arranging my birthing partner yet. Usually it would be a parent or partner, but under the circumstances I don't think that's a good idea. I could ask Amy, but I'm not sure I'd want my best friend to see me with my legs suspended in the air. I do want her opinion though so I gave her a quick call the second the midwife left.

Me - Hiya.

Amy - Hey babe.

Me - Have I called at the wrong time?

Amy - No, the best time. I'm bored on my lunch break. Is everything okay?

Me - Yeah, I've just seen the midwife and it's got me thinking. The baby is fine though don't worry.

Amy - Okay.

Me- Don't think this is a hint either.

Amy - What on earth are you on about?

Me - I need a birthing partner.

Amy - Oh.

Me - Yeah, I don't know how but it slipped my mind. What do you think?

Amy - Well usually it's a parent if the baby's Dad isn't involved.

Me - I don't think that would go down well.

Amy - What about Jamie then?

Me - Jamie?

Amy - He is your partner.

Me - He hasn't even seen down there yet never mind a baby coming out of there!

Amy - There's three months to go yet.

She's finding this highly amusing.

Me - I suppose so. Do you think he would?

Amy - Course. He's been supporting you from the moment you fell pregnant.

Me - I think I'd quite like him to be there.

Amy - Ask him the next time you see him.

Me - Yeah I will, well I'll try.

Amy - I better go now babes, but keep me informed. See you soon.

Me - I will, thank you.

She's right, surely if Jamie wants to support me through the pregnancy he wouldn't have a problem being there at the birth.

I debated on going to see Jamie in the studio but thought about how I'd distract him from working, so instead I arranged to visit my parents at home again. I want them to find out about my new relationship from me rather than the daily mail, they won't like it but when have they ever liked a decision of mine?

"Hiya," I smiled as Mum greeted me at the door.

"I didn't expect to see you again so soon," she spoke.

"No, I have some news."

"Oh, your Dad's in the garden. I'll go get him."

"Okay."

I sat down in the living room and waited for them to join me and Kelly, she's currently sitting on the couch glued to her blackberry.

"How's university going?" I asked awkwardly.

"Yeah, you know.." she replied. Is that even an answer?!

"Hiya love, is everything okay?" Dad asked taking off his muddy gloves.

"Yeah it's nothing to worry about."

"What is it?" Mum asked.

"I just want to tell you all know that me and Jamie are giving things a go."

Kelly sniggered in her seat.

"Jamie?" Mum frowned.

"You were only telling us the other day how he doesn't want a relationship! He's no good for you," Dad scowled.

"I obviously got it wrong. We've discussed things and we're giving it a go," I replied.

"It's ridiculous, you're pregnant!"

"I've had more support from Jamie through this pregnancy than I have anyone else," I muttered.

"He's only after one thing from you and thats not dirty nappies," Mum spoke.

Kelly sniggered again.

"Is something funny?" I snapped.

"Don't start on her!"

I knew Mum would be the first to defend my sister.

"It's got nothing to do with her, I don't need her childish behaviour."

"Me childish?" she laughed. "I'm not the one being taken for a mug."

"Jamie's my best friend, you don't even know the man."

"Oh I do, along with many other females in south London!"

"What's that supposed to mean?" I frowned.
