Chapter 22: I can feel your heartbeat

(Lucy POV)

I hear a sharp sound from a room nearby. I sounds like someone just fired a gun.

"Did anyone else just hear that or was it just me?" Asks Sting.

"Yes, I heard it loud and clear" states Rogue.

"Me too" says Levy.

"Juvia heard something too!" Juvia confesses.

"Do you think it was Natsu?" I ask.

"I don't know but there's only one way to find out." says Gajeel.

"What?" asks Gray.

"Lucy you said you had found a nail in your/ Natsu's old cell right?"

"Yeah, why?" I respond.

"I need you to pass it over here" Gajeel replies.

"Okay"

I slip the nail underneath a crack between our cells.

"Thanks" Gajeel says.

"Your welcome" I say.

"Please don't eat it Gajeel" says Levy.

Gajeel has a problem, he likes chewing no dirty metal. It's gross.

"Geez I won't" states Gajeel.

Gajeel takes the nail and starts to mess around the lock with it. I think he's picking the lock.

"When we were 9, Natsu had taught me to pick locks" Gajeel remembered. "I never thought that would come in handy again"

With much effort Gajeel picked the lock and slowly stepped/ crawled out of his cell.

"Wow you actually did it" Gray celebrated.

"Yeah, I'm not an idiot you know" said Gajeel.

After about 10 minutes, Gajeel had picked all of our locks and let us free.

"A can't believe Natsu was in one of those things for five years" said Gray.

"Me neither" said Erza, who I had forgotten was there.

"I feel so bad" I said about to get teary eyed.

"It's okay it wasn't your fault" said Sting who has comforting me.

"Guys you realize we still have to save Natsu right" Gajeel snickers.

"Yeah, yeah let's go" Gray calls back.

We slowly run toward the room where we've been hearing all those awful sounds from.

I find myself at the door, at which I was at 30 minutes ago. Though this time when I look through the window Natsu is more bloody and completely still while hanging from the ceiling by his hands. He looks lifeless.

Gajeel, who had still had the nail picked the lock for the door. After a couple of minutes we slowly open the door and walk in. What we see is horrifying.

Blood is everywhere. Even the smell of it surrounds the room. I look toward Natsu. He's covered in blood, his own. It is even on his face. But Natsu is also bleeding uncontrollably. Blood is dripping everywhere from him.

I can feel the tears streaming down my face.

"Oh my God" I say in between crying and sniffling.

"This is not how I planned to reunite with Natsu" says Sting.

"Me neither" confesses Rogue.

"It's absolutely horrible" says Yukino.

"He didn't deserve this" says Gajeel apathetically. "Any of this"

"What happened here?" says Lyon.

"Isn't it obvious" says Gray. "They tortured him"

While everyone else is starting in awe, I walk towards Natsu. I place my head on his chest. I don't care if I get my hair or clothes dirty. He's here and that's all that matters. I can hear a faint heartbeat, barely working.

"Natsu" I start. "Please wake up"

I get no response.

"Please Natsu" I cry.

Still nothing.

"Natsu!!!" I scream.

"I love you" I whisper.

Still nothing.

I can't help it, he's in so much pain. He's had enough bitterness. I look up. His eyes are closed, cuts on his face are still bloody. I realized one more time. I love him. I love Natsu. I slowly lean in, my hand combs through his pink locks. It's time, I kiss him. That familiar, warm feeling courses through my veins once again. But this time it was different. Better. This time it was true love.

I start to cry. I can't help it. I feel like, it is my fault Natsu is like this. If I didn't run off this would have never happened. I'm so sorry. Natsu. Yes

"Lucy it's okay" says Erza.

"No! It's not okay! Natsu is dying! This is all my fault, it's because I ran off!" I sob uncontrollably.

"No it's not your fault!" Erza coos.

"It kind of is" Gajeel says.

"GAJEEL!!!" Levy screeches. "That isn't making things better!!"

"Sorry" Gajeel says sarcastically.

"I can sing to make you feel better?" Gajeel suggests.

"Noooo!!!" screams Levy. "Are you stupid!? People don't want you to sing when someone is crying!!!"

"Actually I don't mind" I say. "If Gajeel sings, I mean"

"Whaaaaat!!!!" Says Sting and Rogue simultaneously. "Do you realize what you've done!!!"

"Oh crap" says Yukino. "This isn't gonna end well"

"Tell me about it" Lyon complains.

"Does anyone have some ale? I'm gonna need it" Cana begs.

"Colorful, colorful, Shooby do bop! Tremble with love, steel gray metallic! Doo do doo Shalalala" Gajeel sings horribly and continuously.

"This was a horrible decision" Gray moans.

"Agreed" says Erza.

"Juvia hates this" Juvia complains.

Suddenly a new voice in the room says "Geez that is some horrible singing...is that Gajeel?"

We all turn around to see Natsu awake "That is some horrible singing"

We all start gawking and I start sobbing again.

Natsu looked confused "Luce is something wrong?! What did I do?! Whatever I did I'm sorry!"
