Adrian’s POV:

This week was worst week of my entire life. Avoiding Leah was the hardest thing I’d ever done because my wolf kept craving for her. Everywhere I went, she’d be there. I only ever had a few seconds to take in her features before I had to turn around or else I would subconsciously move closer to her. Like that time I wasn’t paying attention and brushed my arms against hers. Feeling those sparks made me moan, I just hope she didn’t hear it as I rushed to get away.

I only made it as far as the next corner where I slid down the wall, closing my eyes and trying to control my wolf.

“Go claim her,” my wolf said,

“Are you completely nuts?” I replied in my head. “Once she sees what we look like, she’ll turn around and run like hell.”

“But I want I touch her,” my wolf whined.

“I know me too.” I sighed and got up. I avoided Leah for the rest of the day, and I was going great until I got home.

“Grams, I’m home!”

“Hey sweetie, I’m in here!” she said from the kitchen. I walked in to find her cooking her famous crème brule. Oh no, I thought, this could only mean I that have to visit my family, or we’re having a pack meeting. Even though I’m part of the pack, I don’t like to attend these things because well, it’s hard when your family runs the place and doesn’t want you around, when your family doesn’t want to remind people you’re part of their family.

My dad, being the current alpha that was soon to step down and pass the position to one of my brothers, couldn’t disown me or else it would reflect badly on his reputation. He cares more about his reputation than his own son.

So, he dumped me with Grams, but I wasn’t complaining. I think I would’ve turned suicidal if I stayed in that house, living with those people. My older brother Liam and my baby sister Sara were the only two that treated me decently. My sister didn’t understand anything because she was five years old and my brother just encouraged me to get over everything or move on. He was lucky he was in college and didn’t have to deal with this.

He didn’t have dog ears and claws. He didn’t constantly have to be on guard. He didn’t have to stay away from people in case they decided to rip his hood off, exposing his mutations. That’s what happened to me all the time and it sucked. The jocks always thought it would be fun to play a game of ‘who can rip the hood off of the freak’. The winner would be the one who did it the most. Those low lives have nothing better to do, so I guess I was their sick entertainment.

Now here I was, going to be forced to another bonfire party where I could find a nice comfy corner in the back, away from everyone else.

“Adrian, why don’t you go and get ready for the bonfire? And don’t bother arguing with me because you know you won’t win.” Grams said, pointing a wooden spoon at me.

Chuckling, I said “Sure Grams, anything for you.” With a small smile, I kissed her on her cheek and walked to my room. I jumped in to the shower, washing myself with soap (and yes if you’re wondering about my tail and ears, I washed them too). Stepping out, I didn’t really bother to pick out something special to wear. Anything would be fine, just as long as it covered my tail and ears. I pulled on a grey hoody and a pair of jeans and went downstairs to see my Grams standing there, tapping her foot impatiently and pretending to look at her watch.

“Finally! I thought I would have to grab you by the ears and drag you out.” she said while exiting the house. I subconsciously cupped my ears. I knew firsthand how it felt when Grams wanted me to do something and if I refused. I might as well have signed either my death wish or the embarrassment contract. I went through both, but I got to say, the embarrassment contract was the worst. Shuddering at that memory, I grabbed the house keys, locked the door and joined Grams in the car.
