Chapter 16 Jake

Kelsey has called me 37 times since I got home from school, and texted me 108 times.

"Jake, dinner is ready." My mom calls from the dining room.

I put my home work on the coffee table in the living room and get off the couch. Every night my mom makes dinner and some how finishes right when my dad gets home from work.

He walks through the front door and my mom greets him with a kiss and a hello.

"Smells great, Hun." He smiles at her. "Jake how was your day?"

"It was good. Kelsey has non stop texted me, Chase's dad bought a beach house and he invited me to go with them this weekend. Oh and you guys to."

At that my Dad's face lights up and shortly after so does my Mom's.

"We would love to." Exclaims my father.

After dinner I finish my home work and then go to bed.

It's Friday. Tonight my parents and Chase and his parents will be at the beach and everything will be forgotten. hopefully they don't get phone service there. I go to Chase's locker and see him with Kelsey.

He looks frustrated with his eyebrows pulled towards the middle of his forehead and a small frown on his lips.

"No, I told you time and time again no, no, and no." I hear him tell her.

I'm standing behind Kelsey just close enough to hear them. Chase looks up and meets my gaze. His face loosens a little when he sees me.

"Chase, come on I know you can talk to him. He is your best friend." I can tell by her voice that she is batting her eye lashes and trying to use her puppy face.

What she doesn't know is that Chase never fell for it. "Get out of here he doesn't want to be with you no matter what I say to him."

The warning bells rings and she walks away.

"Hey I talked to my parents. We are in for this weekend. What time should we be at your house?"

Last night my parents called Chase's and decided that we are going to save gas and all ride together.

"Umm right when your dad gets home from work. That's like five right?"

"Yea."

When I get to health class, Megan looks like she is going jump out of her chair. I take my time sitting down next to her.

"Hey." My face turns red as my voice cracks.

"Hi." She says quickly.

Megan gets up out of her chair as soon as Mr. Smith walks in the room. She almost runs up to him. When she starts talking to him tears run down her face. Mr. Smith nods and she leaves the room.

Before I realize what I'm doing I run after her. I hear Mr. Smith call after me as I leave.

"Megan!" I yell down the hallway.

She is headed towards the south exit. I know she hears me but she keeps going. When I get outside she is walking towards the highway. I sprint to my car and pull up next to her.

"Where ever you are going I can get there faster get in."

Reluctantly she slides in next to me.

"Where are you going?"

"The hospital." She whispers.

"Why?" My voice is strained.

"Please don't ask." She starts crying again.
