“Hello?” That’s when I the boys decided to turn into wild animals, and stamped into the bus, making it rock more than usual.

They were all talking at once, so I put the phone on speaker. They all sat around me in a circle. We waited for a respond. I couldn’t help but think that maybe this wasn’t her number. But still a guy could hope.

“Hello…?” I asked again.

“Uh, yeah I heard you the first time…” She said. Her voice was soft and smooth. It sounded like she was whispering or something. It was barely around 12:00 p.m. here, and where in California, so I have no idea what time it is in Chicago… I’m guessing around ten, or Two. She didn’t sound bitchy. On someone else her sentence would be considered rude or something, but just over the phone I could tell she wasn’t meaning it that way. Just as a way to tell me she heard. She heard me. I looked at the boys and Zayn quoted Harry. He smirked at me, and mouthed “Feisty.” They all smiled. She sounded strange. Nervous almost. I put her back to normal, so that only I heard our conversation, instead of the whole bus.

“Right… where are you?” I asked.

She let out a chuckle and said “Chicago. Living it up at school. There’s nothing like math and reading to get me so happy. Woo,” She was being sarcastic of course, “What about you? Where has the magical life of the famous Niall Horan taken you to today?”

“California. We’re leaving soon though I think. Were just getting a bite to eat, and then were gone.” I stated.

“Ah, there’s the fascinating part.”

Zayn lifted up two thumbs up, while the rest nodded.

“Very fascinating indeed… Wait your in school!?” I didn’t know if I should be flattered that she took the risk to call me, or just shocked in general. I’ll stick to being half and half.

“Uh, yeah about that, I’m sort of supposed to be in algebra right now…”

“Ugh, that crap with the letter, AND numbers?” I hated that. What do you need it for anyway?

“Yeah that exact crap. It’s really useless. There’s nothing like finding ‘X’ over some random that no one cares about. You’d think that ‘X’ would stop trying by now. It’s very persistent.” Over the phone I could feel her smiling, and so do I.

“You should come to Ohio. We have a show there in a couple of weeks. That’s not that far from Chicago, I could meet you there.”

“And that’s where I have to say no. I can’t go to Ohio. I’m only Seventeen; I don’t think my parents are exactly the type to let their teenage girl go to another state to meet up with a band member that is on a U.S. tour. I don’t know about yours but my parents aren’t that liberating.”

We were both smiling through the phone. I could sense her smile. Louis and Harry were both making kissy faces at each other while holding their mobiles to their ears while laughing. Of course they would find this the perfect moment to imitate me. We stayed quite for a while, but nothing awkward. It was kind of peaceful really. I could hear her breathing.

One breath. Two, Three, Four, Five.

I finally broke our silence. I wanted to hear her soft voice again.

“So question. Why exactly where you yelling at those cops?”

“They were being blokes.” She said. Quick and simple answer. That’s all she said about that. “So why were you still at mall?” She asked.

“I was going back inside when I realized I had left my mobile somewhere in there, during the signing. Then I heard you yelling at those so called blokes, so I went to take a peek.”

“Went to go sneak a peek at the freak did you?” She teased

“Yeah I guess I was. This would be the part where I say that you’re not a freak but we haven’t exactly met yet so I’m not sure yet.”

“Were going to have to fix that, now wont we?”

“So if you can’t come to Ohio, then where?”

“Pit stop on your way back…” She spoke in a singsong voice.

“Can’t…” I said back

“Okay then….”

“Then what happens?”

“We wait.”

“Again?” She sounded disappointed

“Just for a while. We can talk. Like now. We have a week off in like two weeks. Maybe three. I’ll go to Chicago.”

“What about your family?”

“I can always go there when the tours over. I’d rather skip this time off, and go there, then go home.”

“If you say so. So three weeks?”

“Three weeks.”

“Okay then. So, anyway… what do you want to talk about?”

“You should probably get back to Algebra.”

“I don’t want to.”

“No one does. But you’ll get in trouble… How are you getting signal anyway? I thought schools here got like terrible signal.”

“I’m in the bathroom. I climbed the stall barrier wall thingies. I got signal eventually.” She laughed, but then it was silent I could hear her remove her phone from her ear “Shit, shit, shit, shit, fuck, fuckidy fuck, fuck! Fucking shit!” And then I heard a fall. I’m guessing that barrier thing wasn’t so thick. I heard muffled noises and I could hear her from afar. She was speaking to someone else. Looks like she finally got caught, “Hey there. Oh god, what am I doing here? How did I get up there? The mystery of life… That books awesome by the way… ‘The Mystery of Life’ one, not the one you’re holding… Your book actually looks rather boring.” I couldn’t help but laugh. I heard her pick up her mobile and say to me through gritted teeth “Not funny.” I heard her sigh as she said “Detention?

I heard footsteps walk out and she held the phone to her ear “I gotta go. An hour of silence while reading waits! Bye” She laughed but I couldn’t take the chance of not knowing

“Wait!” I yelled and that made Louis and Harry stop imitating me on the phone they looked at me weird and grinned.

“Yeah?” She said, then she said something very annoyed to whomever caught her “I’m coming Jesus. Can’t you wait?” She murmured the last part herself.

“I never caught your name.”

“That’s because you never asked, and I never told you.” I smiled at that, “Ava. Ava Granados. Bye. I’ll talk to you later. If I get a concussion from hitting my head on that toilet I blame you.” With that we both hung up. I couldn’t help but feel disappointed.

Three weeks.

I’ll have to wait for her, three whole weeks.
