“Ugh…” Rick groans out in pain as I quickly stand from my seat. We are in the living room of Nate’s, Cassie’s and my house. I forced Nate to take Cassie out while I have a long talk with Rick. He has been out for almost an hour.

“Where am I?” he mumbles, looking around him.

I glare at him.

His eyes stop at me, and then at my crossbow.

“Are you going to kill me?” he asks me, shaking slightly in fear.

I huff. “No, but I wish I could.”

Rick flinches at my answer. He looks genuinely fearful. “Please spare my life,” he pleads.

I sigh, closing my eyes. “I need you to know why it is important for you to accept Cassie.”

“She’s a murderer,” he snarls, clenching his hands into fists.

“No!” I argue. “She’s not one, for goodness sake. I’m one, but not her!”

His eyes are now so huge that his eyeballs might pop out. “You’re – you’re a – mur - ?”

I throw my hands into the air. “Finally it gets through your thick head, Rick! Yes, she is not a killer even though she’s a werewolf. She’s your soul mate, the one who is design for you. If she is not, do you think that she will reveal her deepest secret to someone who is important to her? Especially to the one who rejects her?!” I scream back at him.

His head lowers in shame. “She’s – my soul mate?” he repeats.

I did not answer, only giving a pointed look. Isn’t that what I just said?

“And she’s not a killer,” he says, almost as if talking to himself.

I stay silent.

“Can I talk to her?” he asks me, looking up at me with tears.

I nod. “I’ll call Nate now.”

I take a few steps towards the kitchen when Rick suddenly yells out, “Wait!”

Without turning, I reply, “Change your mind already, Rick?”

“I just want to know if you’re a werewolf too…” Rick mumbles.

I look at him sideway, grinning at him. “Nate and I are human. Just like you.”

He looks confused at my answer. “Then how do you know about were – were – ”

“Werewolves,” I supply for him as he nods. “Let’s just say, it is my job to hunt down werewolves and kill them.”

I nudge at my crossbow to show proof.

“Then you’re going to kill Cassie?!” he shouts at me, launching himself at me.

I easily dodge him, making him run into a wall. Well, that shows how possessive Rick is over Cassie.

I narrow my eyes at him. “If I am going to kill Cassie, wouldn’t I kill her by now?” I yell at him, wanting to kick him for his stupidity.

“But…” Rick trails off. Yup, he’s too confused.

“I’ll just let Cassie fill you in. Then you’ll know what’s going on. For now, just remember, if you reject Cassie again, I won’t hesitate to kill you,” I threaten, glaring at him.

Rick looks away from my gaze. “I know that I won’t,” he murmurs.

I nod in approval.

“Good.”
