Chapter 7

I couldn’t help but smirk at his reaction. Sevres him right for trying to tell me what I can’t do.  We drove in silence towards the bowling alley. The music was humming quietly from the stereo and that was all that was on. It wasn’t awkward, more like a peaceful silence I guess you could say.  We pulled up at the alley about 10 minutes later. I don’t exactly know what he was thinking but I guess I would go along with it, bowling at like midnight must be fun in his case.  We stepped out of the car and walked towards the doors.

I felt so overdressed though. I was in a dress and heels with makeup, no doubt that some kind of disaster was going to happen. With this tight thing on I don’t even see how I could do this. But whatever this night was supposed to be fun, Even if it is stupid fun.

The guy at the counter was an old bald man and he looked at me up and down which caused me to make a face. He quickly turned away and handed us two pairs of shoes. Jordan payed the money and handed me a pair with a smile. We walked all the way down till the last lane. I sat down on one of the chairs and pulled the shoes on. “now I remember!” Jordan exclaimed. I gave him a confused look, what did he remember?

“That guy, uh your friend. I’ve seen him before. He used to come around here a lot. Like in the summer. We used to see who could get the best score since we were always here at the same times” Jordan’s face lit up as if he’s remembered something great. But my face had a frown on it. If James used to come here all the time in the summer around this time, then what is the chances of him showing up here now? I bit my lip nervously and looked around. A couple of people were playing a few lanes down, but they were here when we got here, and James had just pulled up for ice cream when we left. It looked like they were all girls anyway. “Ok ready?” I nodded as he entered our names in the screen

An hour later I was on the floor laughing as the ball rolled down into the gutter. Jordan was standing behind me laughing as well. I had gone up for my last turn and went too far up, that resulted as to me slipping and the ball flying into the air and barley moving into the gutter.

We were tied, but after that last throw, I doubt I was winning now. but I don’t really care, I had so much fun tonight! “ok your turn” I managed to get up and stumble off the floor towards the seats. He grabbed a ball and smirked at me, he swung the ball with his right hand, making it swing over a whole three lanes with the girls, it knocked down all of their pins as they looked over here shocked. I couldn’t keep from laughing. Jordan threw his hands up “STRIKE” I pretty sure everyone is this place heard it too. i clutched my stomach from laughing so hard.

“I guess we remain tied then” he said in between laughs. The girls over there were staring at us like we were crazy but we just laughed more at their faces. When we had finally calmed down enough my stomach decided to growl, announcing that it was hungry.  “Well then I’m hungry too, let’s go get some food. There’s a snack bar over there” he said pointing across where a little bar was. We walked over there and sure enough the creepy guy was there again. I couldn’t help but roll my eyes, it was only creepers who work this late at a 24 hour bowling alley. The door chimed just as we got there, “I’ll be back in one second” the man rushed out before running out of the stand to the front, no doubt to check out his next customers.

“So what do you want” Jordan was looking over at the board. “Hmmm I'm thinking some fries?” I looked over to see him looking straight at me. “Sure, and some pizza, I doubt you’re going to be filled up on just some fries” he decided.  “let’s go to the front and see what the guys doing, it doesn’t take that long to get shoes for some people” I couldn’t help but laugh at how impatient he was. He just rolled his eyes, and grabbed my arm pulling me along. I could tell he was amused from the way his lips curled up at the end, hinting at a smile.

We walked up to the counter to see the creepy man bustling around and fiddling with like 5 different pairs of shoes, I turned my attention to the people that he was serving. There was a blond haired girl, wearing a short tight skirt (if that was even classified as a skirt) and half a top. Another red head was wearing a short black strapless dress; she looked a bit nicer and a lot out of place. A guy was standing beside the blond; he had short blond hair and was staring at the blond like he could eat her. I shifted my gaze to the last guy standing beside the red head. of course he was none other than James. Jordan looked over to where I was staring at immediately smiled.

“Hey guys, long time no see.” He said to all of them. I guess James usually goes out with them, much to my dislike. “Jordan!” the blond screamed and rushed over to hug him. I backed away a bit, not knowing how the heck she knew him but whatever. “Oh man that’s you Jordan, I never even recognized you at the party.” James said like they were friends. After what happened with them at the party they were now acting as if nothing ever happened. James walked up and gave Jordan some sort of man hug. While completely ignoring me.

“So what do you say, a round for fun?” James smirked at Jordan. I rolled my eye, expecting it to go un-noticed, but of course a stupid girl was watching me. “What are you rolling your eyes at” one of them sneered. I looked over with a bored expression at the red head. Obviously I had misread her, she did belong with them.  “Your face” I said back.  All eyes were on us now, at the obvious tension between us, I guess these guys and Jordan have a good relationship here or something.

“uh yea guys this is Taylor” Jordan said awkwardly. “And what is she doing here?” the blond asked rudely. “I met her at a party tonight, so I brought her out with Me.” he answered easily. He acted like I was nothing more than this night’s pickup with them. I could feel James staring at me, that’s what made me not look over at him. “Well yea anyways Jordan, sure. Let’s see who wins this time” Jordan turned his attention back to James and the two girls starting talking about some random crap.

This night had just turned officially bad. It was so close to being fun, but they had to come and ruin it. They walked over to the lane where we were and entered their names. I noticed that none of them had even looked at me while they did that, nor did they acknowledge me. my name wasn’t even on the board. I guess I was officially uninvited. I was not one to stand for this crap, this was the sort of reason I picked and chose my friends carefully and never went out to parties.

“Well I can see I'm not wanted here so I’ll be going now” I said getting up. Everyone turned to look at me as I stood up “what” I said rudely. They want to be like that then I will too. “Wait, Tay where are you going, remember I drove you here” Jordan had to say, which everyone laughed at.  Was it his point to make me look stupid, I could see the sad glimmer in his eyes at me leaving, but he had become a whole different person in front of these people, and I didn’t like it at all? His eyes were pleading me to stay but his actions said differently.  “Well there is such thing as feet. I’ll just walk. I'm not going to wait for you to finish bowling with them just so I can get a drive home” I started walking away. I didn’t even look back, I wasn’t sure exactly where I was but I would get some directions from creepy dude at the front before I leave. I don’t care how long it’s going to take me to walk, but id rather than be stuck here like a unwanted person.

I walked up to the front and placed my shoes there. “Uh sir do you know how to get back to Ranch Avenue?” I asked politely.  “Oh that’s just 10 minutes away.” He said, and continued to give me the directions. He assumed I had a car I guess, because I knew these streets. And they were far off from my house. “Ok thank you” I said politely before turning around to leave. I took one look behind me at them. Jordan was staring sadly at me while James simply looked at me with a un-readable expression. But it wasn’t a good one. It was more of a ‘ha I won’ expression.

I walked out the door and sighed, beginning my long walk.
