"Two Young Children"

Two young children six and ten
conquering dirt hills,
in the temperate July sun.
Investigating the new planet
in extreme delight,
as cars purr past and life casually goes by.
Two young children eight and twelve
covered in dirt and grime
swinging mud covered sticks,
like two knights ready to duel.
Each adamant on winning
as the stars observe.
Two teenagers fifteen and eighteen
one on the verge of adulthood,
the other a soldier in training.
Grown apart from one another
but forevermore
those two young children,
who were once inseparable.
