Chapter Thirteen

Aphrodite smiled to herself as she watched her little toy kiss a man she was supposed to despise. Her little game had just begun and she was already enjoying it immensely. She couldn't wait to see where things went from here. She had been right in choosing the mortal named Amelia as the one who would receive her blessing.

She had been so bored for many hundreds of years that she couldn't stand being absent from the world for a second longer. Stuck on Olympus with that hideous husband of hers had taken all of the Goddess's patience, and not even her secret rendezvous with Ares had been able to sate her desires entirely. But now that Zeus was out of the picture, she was able to once more walk among the humans and have a little fun. She so loved meddling in the love lives of other people.

It was strange though. The mighty, arrogant, and powerful Zeus now resided in the soul of a young mortal boy who didn't seem to have any desirable qualities. How that ever came to be would always baffle the vain being, but she could not deny that it was a fact. Even as she stood against the far wall of the dreary place of learning, her powers shrouding her presence from the mortals, Aphrodite could feel the power washing off of the boy named Jason Mitchell. In that respect alone he was truly impressive. Unrefined, but impressive. Like a wild animal bristling with raw power.

This boy was Artemis's pride. She could see the mark of her sister-in-law under his clothing as plain as day; so there was no mistaking it. To think that Artemis would actually venture into the mortal world and take an interest in a human. A male at that. Aphrodite was greatly interested by this enigma and she was sure it would liven things up a bit. If only for a little while.

Gazing around the room, Aphrodite looked upon each face present and memorized what they looked like. One face in particular caught her interest and she slowly pulled herself away from the wall, making sure not to alert the hero that she was among the mortals. She stood next to a desk and looked down at the young looking blonde girl who seemed oddly familiar. She had a strange aura about her and it almost felt like Artemis. But there was no way that she would hide herself among the students just to keep an eye on her pawn.

It wasn't until she knelt down to get a closer look that she realized just why this young woman looked so familiar. She had seen her before, on Olympus. Yes. It had been a very long time ago, but this girl had walked among the Gods. But why was she here? In such close proximity to Jason and Amelia?

In fact, now that she looked around she began to notice other things and objects that were familiar to her. The owl sitting on the branch just outside the window belonged to Athena, the boy sitting a few seats away from Jason smelled like Hades for some strange reason, and the man at the front of the room speaking to the class wore a pin that resembled the symbol of the Osiris. It seemed like the boy had more eyes on him than he would ever probably realize.

Wishing to look upon the strange mortal boy up close, Aphrodite slipped towards him and made sure that her presence would not be detected. The last thing she needed was for him to suddenly realize that she was standing over him and start attacking. Especially since she was more of a lover than a fighter. She was sure she would have no problems defending herself against his attacks, but why take the risk? It wouldn't be very good for her cause if he realized why his little friend was suddenly acting so strangely towards him. She needed him oblivious until the time was right.
