Dan stared at himself in the mirror

Everyone heard about what happened

It's been three days

And Dan is debating on showing up

He doesn't know how to take it all in

He can't take it all in

No one talks to him anymore

Everyone hates him now

Because he's related to the man the killed Phil Lester.

He was present at the moment

When they rushed him through the emergency doors

When they tried to save him

But he was already gone

He stayed in that waiting room for hours

When the nurse came out with the news, Dan couldn't control himself

He broke down on the spot

He knew it wouldn't end well

But he just had a small bit of hope that Phil would be ok

Phil is gone, and so is Dan's happiness

Dan throws on the suit jacket and stares at himself in the mirror.

He sees the bags under his eyes that stand out over his pale complexion.

Dan finally decides he will go.

He walks out of the empty house and locks the door behind him and walks along the street.

Every exhale lets out a white cloud and evaporates into the air.

Every breath is shakier than the last

Dan looks down at his feet, lost in thought

He finally makes it to the funeral home.

He debates going inside before forcing himself to go in.

He walks in to see Phil's mom

It's just them

Phil's mom has tears streaming down her face, her eyes red and puffy.

She walks over to Dan and gives him a huge hug.

He hugs her back as the first tears fall down his cheeks

"I'm glad you could make it early" Phil's mom says when parting from Dan "you're like family, Dan"

"I'm glad you think that" Dan responds more tears running down his face "everyone thinks it's my fault"

"Dan, it's not your fault, I know that, that man is out of your life forever now, you don't have to worry"

Dan nods and his eyes glance over to the casket.

"May I?" Asks Dan

"Of course" replies Phil's mom, stepping out of the way.

Dan hesitantly walks over to the casket, a heavy weight upon his shoulders.

Dan kneels down in front of the casket and takes a look at Phil.

He looks so different laying there, his skin is paler than usual and his smile is gone. The bags under his eyes have disappeared and the suit he wears looks uncomfortable.

Dan folds his hands and closes his eyes.

Hey Phil,

You know I've never been to church before so I'm going to try my best at this.
