Chapter 20: Step 1- Ulterior Motives
Gabrielle’s POV
The doorbell rang and I went to answer it, as I was expecting someone. The dark haired girl stood there in a big woolen sweater and shorts with her books in-hand.
“Hey!”
“Hi….” Jade said nervously, shifting her weight from one foot to another
I led her inside and I plopped down where I had set up my books.
“So this is supposed to be on Titration?” Jade asked me as she settled into a chair (A.N. For the record, I DO NOT, do Chemistry!)
“Right.”
“And that is…?”
“The technique to find the gradient of a substance.” I answered, not surprised that she didn’t know
Jade wasn’t exactly the brightest light bulb in the box.
“Oh okay.”
We fell into a silence, just making our own notes.
“Why are you friends with Zayn?” Jade blurted
I had to use my quick thinking.
“Why not? Is there something wrong with him?”
She sighed.
“I guess not…”
“So a standard solution…” Jade said
“Why are you and Zayn not friends?” I said 3 minutes later
“He didn’t tell you?”
“No.” I lied
“It’s probably best if he tells you himself.” She turned away
I could tell I was making things awkward so I eased off the topic for a while.
“So we weigh out accurately the required mass of the solid watch glass.”
“Okay. I think that’s enough for today.” I said shutting my book
While I was sorting through my things I swore I heard a small voice say ‘Gabrielle’. I looked up at Jade and her legs were crossed on the chair and she looked almost innocent.
“Did you just call me?” I asked her
She nodded.
“Do you think….that…that….Zayn is at-tractive?” I was surprised at her willingness to bring up Zayn
Maybe I wasn’t the only one who was benefitting from this project.
“Uh…I-I guess….I mean, in a certain light….” I replied awkwardly
“Right….”
“But I mean he’s gay so…”
“Of course! Of course…” Jade replied just as awkwardly
“It’s getting pretty late now. I need to be home before 8.”
“Oh, alright. So we’ll meet up again tomorrow?”
“Okay. I’ll probably text you though.” Jade commented before leaving
Phase 1 completed.
This is where the really good part of the story begins ! The story has come so far ! At this moment, I’m at the 3rd to last chapter (in writing), I don’t type immediately as I write.
