The Siren & The Sailor

I'm strong with power,
He is powerful with strength.

I was told that I was invincible,
That no man could subdue my voice with willpower alone.

I had no regrets, no shame, no desolation.
My heart was ebony and my lips were scarlet-the perfect recipe for heart break.

He wore dark navy and heaved self-knotted nets on his shoulder.
With eyes blue as the sea, I called him another target.

I was told he was an unbreakable tide.
An ocean that a sword could slice through him but not shatter him (he'd still be whole).

He was brought up to be a challenge.
And I wanted to conquer.

I used my sweet and silky words of milk and honey.
All the while hoping to catch him in my web.

Standing on the edge of green, mossy rocks I slipped right over the edge.
I fell into his net I believed I could free.

He spoke unforgiving bitter sentences of salt and sea, straight from the ocean.
Despite what should've happened I fell in love with every wave.

And one stormy day, when the sky was coated in the color of bruises and streaks of yellow power, the sea was unusually stoic.
And I searched for him but he was no where to be seen.

I rubbed my bare feet raw on sand.
I drowned in metallic waves- searching for him.

His shadow would glimmer in the corner of my eye.
Every time, to my disappointment, I'd only see a reflection of a man.

I was told that I was invincible.
That no man could subdue my voice with willpower alone.

But here I was alone,
Like how I left all my sirened puppets.

Staring numbly at the ocean, I realized,
I'd been charmed by his eyes and lured by the strength of his words.

The roles had been reversed.
And the sailor become the siren.

I was so deafened by my own controlling song,
I was blinded to anyone else's.
