Stories that fall under the umbrella of the Surprisepunk can be set in any point in history, the future, or a hitherto undiscovered dimension. Said stories will undoubtedly overlap with most every other sub-genre. The key element of the sub-genre is, yes that's right, surprise.

Imagine the surprised Neanderthal when he realises that instead of inventing fire, he actually invented electricity, or the Gregorian Monk who got a little annoyed with those chants, put a beat to it, and came up with beat-boxing.

The scientist who, rather than creating the A-Bomb actually came up with a formula for faster-than-light travel, or the school girl who was so pissed off with being bullied that with nothing more than the power of her mind, she was able to modify her genetic make-up and take revenge upon those who were mean to her.

OK so you get the point, and I'm sure you can think of many, many, many more examples!

Thanks to both TheOrangutan & Narivah for the inspiration for this one!

Oorah!
