a little piece of me - chapter 16

I'm not used to coming in second,

because I always come in last.

I can't ever win this race,

because you're running too fast.

I've been fighting for so long,

but my stamina won't last.

I'm fighting in the present,

but still holding onto the past.

I'm fighting for something,

that I can't even see.

I don't know what it is,

but I know it's for me.

I don't know where it is,

but it's where I want to be.

I don't know where you are,

but it can't be too far.

I'm crossing my fingers,

and wishing on stars.

Hoping for the day,

when I can finally win this race.

So I'll just keep on running,

at the same pace.

Waiting for the day,

that I can finally see your face.

I know that you're out there,

somewhere in this world.

I don't know if you're a boy,

or if you're a girl.

At this point it doesn't matter,

because you're beautiful to me.

I don't know when I'll meet you,

we'll just have to wait and see.

My beautiful angel,

my unrequited love.

Made just for me,

from the heavens above.

I haven't met you,

I don't know if I will.

but waiting for you,

is kind of a thrill.

I've been waiting for so long,

but I know that it's worth it.

Because in my mind,

you're absolutely perfect.

If you didn't get the message, this is a poem about soulmates. In the beginning, I talk of a race of some sorts that I can never win, a race that just keeps on going. Because to me, looking for love feels endless. You don't know if you'll ever find it but you still keep on searching. I compare the search for love to a race that I'm losing. I know I'm in last place but I still keep on running.
