Chapter 9

Chapter 9: Double Duet

"You can't be serious?" I asked him.

"Of course I am," he said, "Why not? Do you have other duets planned?"

"No but are you sure?" I asked.

"I have no other music plans.”

"Then let's do it," I said, "But it's getting late. I should go home.”

"Oh geez, it's past midnight. I'll drive you," he said.

"Thanks.”

Everyone in his house was asleep so we both snuck out and he drove me home. We were silent most of the ride, but he held my hand which made me happy. It was a calming kind of silent so I was okay with that.

"Thanks for the ride," I said, "Today was amazing. I was very surprised.”

"That was the plan," he said smiling at me. "Does your busy lifestyle have room for me tomorrow?"

"Only if you want to come to the studio with me," I said.

"What time?" he asked.

"10 o'clock," I said.

"I'll meet you there, with Starbucks."

"You know we became official today, but I have a feeling that you're going to be a good boyfriend.”

"Really?" he said sarcastically. “Solely because I bring you coffee?”

“Possibly,” I smiled.

He smirked and stepped closer to me. I stepped towards him and he put his forehead against mine. He slowly put his hand on my waist and started kissing me. My hand was on his chest and I slowly pushed him away.

"I have to go," I finally said.

He kissed me again, "I really like you.”

"I like you too," I said smiling at him.

"I'll see you tomorrow," he said kissing me again.

"Bye."

I walked in and went to bed while Dawson drove home and did the same. I went to sleep with a smile on my face. Dawson’s officially my boyfriend. I’m his girlfriend. What’s not to smile about? I got ready and my dad drove me to the studio the next morning. When I got there someone was in there recording and my manager Ben was watching.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"Oh, great news!" Ben said, "I have a duet set up.”

"Oh...uh."

All I could think of was Dawson. What was he going to say about this?

"With who?" I asked.

The music stopped and a guy around my age came out.

"Hey I'm Grant," he said.

"Hi," I said, "What is this?" I asked back to Ben.

"Your new duet!" He said excitedly.

"That's great," I said, "but I already have one set up.”

"What?" Ben said, "With who?"

"Me," I heard Dawson say from behind me.

All three of us turned around at the same time. Dawson stood in the doorway with Starbucks in his hand. I walked up to him and he handed me the coffee.

"You remembered?" I said smiling.

"Of course I did," he said.

"What's going on?" Ben asked.

I turned to face Ben, "This is who I'm doing a duet with.”

"Moment please?"

I went with Ben into a different room leaving Dawson with Grant

"You agreed to a duet without me?!" he said angrily.

"What's the big deal?" I said, "It's my choice.”

"Because I'm your manger and I've already schedule a duet with Grant.”

"Then cancel it," I told him.

"I can't just cancel it."

I sighed at him, "Fine but only one then it's with Dawson.”

"Thank you," he said.

We walked back and Dawson was looking at me. I could tell he was worried and didn't want me to agree to a duet with Grant but what was I supposed to do?

"Grant," I said, "I'll do one song with you.”

"Thank you!" he said.

"But only one," I pointed out, "The rest are with Dawson.”

"Okay with me.”

Grant went into the room to record and my manager left me with Dawson.

"I'm sorry," I said.

"It's not your fault. Managers...what are you gonna do?"

I was really glad that he understood.

"Yeah...will you still stay though?"

"Yeah, I'll stay," he said, "I can't leave you alone with him.”

"Jealous?" I asked him kind of smiling.

"A little," he admitted, "He seems to like you.”

"Good thing I like you," I replied.

"Good answer," he smiled at me.

He leaned down and kissed me just as my manager came back into the room. What luck.

"What's going on?!" he asked surprised.

"Uh..." I didn't know what to say to him.

"How long has this been going on?" he asked.
