The Other Side

CHAPTER 5

The night in the pizzeria was actually fun. Throughout my years, I had learnt to cope all by myself without any social 4-eyed contact but being with a group out for pizza was exactly what I needed. We laughed and laughed, usually getting some mean looks from other customers. We even had an ice contest to see who could put as many ice cubes as possible into their mouth. Surprisingly little miss London won. I know, shock. She always seemed like a cool and collected girl, one that had a neon sign above her head saying, “TOO-COOL-FOR-YOU” But she was exactly the opposite as she pulled the napkin apart and started to make spit bombs through a straw. We were just ordering desert from a young boy when a louder riot than what we were causing erupted from the front doors and in came a pack of boys. Now, we were a group of almost ten and the pizza place seemed small enough as it was. The new found pack – there were about 20 of them. Each boy muscled up into perfection and a laughing face. One stood out the most. Brad.

“Well, well, well. Look who we found.” Brad sneered as they got into a table next to ours. It turned out, that it wasn’t one big group, it was two that just so happened to come in at the same time. “You knew we were here.” Jade rolled her eyes as the waiter took the last orders and left the table. “Yeah, but I didn’t know you guys were sleeping here! You’ve been in here for what? Four hours now?”

“That sounds stalkerish.” I blurted out without even thinking. Brad eyes met mine and jolly boy that dropped me off, did no longer exist. “You wish you were being stalked by me. I have much better things to do.”

“I’m not holding my breath.” I quickly commented back returning to a conversation on the table. Brad no longer disturbed us and we didn’t even acknowledge their presence, it wasn’t hard when you could hardly hear them from how loud we were being. After desert arrived, I couldn’t help but dig into it, I had a feeling that got fingernails of chocolate cookie crumble run down my throat as if being chased by the vanilla ice cream that travelled after it. We took longer than necessary finishing our heavenly made deserts, and when we did, the boy-waiter came back with the individual bills. On mine however, was something written in pen.

I smiled down at the paper before taking it in my hands and walking to the boy who was standing backwards to me. As I leaped against the counters he smiled up at me. “Too soon?” He asked with a hint of sadness. I couldn’t help but slightly laugh at that. I shook my head, “No,” that seemed to bring a smile to his face. From the counter I brought up a pen and took his hand on it, I wrote down my details. “Call me when you’re free.” And with that I passed him the money I owed him and strutted back to my table not caring that everyone had seen me do that. If only they knew that there was no way this guy could break into my walls. “Anyways guys.” I said grabbing my coat and cell from the table. “I got to go.” I smirked as I flung the body warmer around me, “I’ll see you guys at school?” They all nodded saying bye to me as Jade got up to hug me, “See you tomorrow darling. And…” She gave me a serious look, “Call me when you get home.” I laughed at how serious she sounded but nevertheless I nodded agreeing to call her. I left with a wave of my hand. Brad seemed to notice it because his head turned to face me, pizza in his mouth and sauce all over his face. I only grimaced at him before pushing through the glass doors.

Back at home, everything seemed peaceful for a very odd reason. I knew everyone was home, I saw all the cars in the drive way, and I knew Mel was home too, seeing her pink silhouettes by the steps. I bounded up the stair coming in crashing into her room. She turned from taking to someone over the phone to killing me with her gaze. “Are you driving to school with me tomorrow or are you walking by yourself?” I asked getting to the point.
