"So, Maria, what's the plan?"

Maya glanced towards Carter with a flat expression. "It's Maya," She corrected. "And we need to talk to my dad. He might be able to help you. He and my mom used to be part of a resistance before the President..." She trailed off, swallowing hard, but both of the Outsiders understood what she couldn't say, having both lost their mothers too.

"Ah, it becomes clear now." Carter nodded. "You have a personal vendetta against your leader."

"Carter." Bellamy elbowed the girl in the arm, wordlessly telling her to shut up.

"It's not like that," Maya denied, picking up her pace as the three strode down the corridors, heads casted downwards to avoid being identified by cameras straight away. "What they're doing to your friends is wrong. I want to be able to walk outside like you, but I don't want anyone to die because of it. That's why I'm helping you."

"Right," Carter bit her lip, shying her gaze away. "Sorry."

"It's fine." Maya smiled, though it seemed too forced. "We need to go to my room and talk to my dad about what to do. It's only a matter of time before they try to infiltrate Level Five again, and this time they won't lose."

"Sounds like a plan." Carter grinned, trying to regain the lighthearted mood she had before... Well, as lighthearted as one could get when they're life was constantly in danger. "Mari- Maya, could you tell me how to find your place? I'm going to retrieve Rae before we talk to your old man."

"Sure, it's-"

"The hell you are." Bellamy interjected before Maya could reply. "You're not going anywhere."

"Correction, I am." Carter held up her index finger as she retaliated. "I'm not leaving Rae behind."

"So after you give the let's-not-split-up-again speech, you want to split up?" Bellamy quirked his eyebrow, not even bothering to hide his annoyance. "After you slapped me around the face for leaving you, you're going to leave me?"

"That's-"

"-No, Carter, you're not winning this one." Bellamy stopped her before she could finish what she was about to say. "You are not leaving my side."

"Bell-"

"- Knowing your damn luck, you'll end up in that seat back there and I won't be able to save your ass." He quipped and Carter flicked her gaze towards Maya, who looked even more awkward than she did before. Part of the engineer felt guilty for all the couple-like situations Maya has been forced to watch between the two. Bellamy was still talking, but Carter decided to switch off and roll her eyes. He always had to make everything into a speech. Eventually, the blonde clasped her hand over his mouth, forcing him to shut up. In any other circumstance she might have gone down the cliché route of kissing him to make him stop, but she was more than aware of how out-of-place Maya was already feeling and Carter had more consideration than that.

"Right, shut up for just a second, jeez..." She hesitantly removed her hand, allowing it to hover in front of his mouth in case he tried to argue again, but all he did was send her a flat look. "I was never gonna suggest we split up, you idiot. I was going to ask if you wanted to come with me."

"Oh." He averted his gaze sheepishly. It reminded Carter of the time that Octavia questioned why he was wearing the guard's uniform on their first day down on Earth. It seemed like lifetime ago. "Carter, we don't have the time to make a detour. It's not like time is on our side."
