Secondhand Smoke

The only depressant I've ever known,

Wasn't the ice cold liquor,

That would cause the night to go quicker.

It wasn't the slurs,

Or the blurs,

No, it was the harsh grey ashes,

Rotting teeth, two world clashes.

One time, would get you addicted,

One-ashamed inhale inflicted

Red and orange flame around,

Soon only lethal poison will surround

It wasn't necessary most times,

It was more of a game to make time fly.

It could've been words disguised as smoke,

A lie for every inhale, how would you cope?

A simple lie all starts with one,

No control of what it could become.

A single cloud rolling from your tongue,

Could rotten your mouth, decay your lung.

A simple inhale,

Could cause your heart to stale,

Your body to become frail,

Yes it all starts with one,

Leading to a thousand,

You could never be done.

Lying was your oxygen,

Words spilling like toxin.

It's as contagious as second hand smoke,

If I breathe you in too long I will choke.

It all starts with just one,

One ugly lie,

To destroy the prettiest of lives.

Cigarettes looked so harmless,

But then again,

To a man filled with lies,

Breathing you in was a sin.

The only depressant I've ever known,

Wasn't the ice cold liquor,

It wasn't the cigarette smoke growing thicker,

No, It was the lies you told,

The way your words smoke,

How would anyone be able to cope?
