ESME WAS LAYING DOWN on a bed and holding hands with her husband who was sitting in a chair. Meredith was trying to insert an IV, while Maddison stood holding Esme's chart with Liam next to her.
"What's that other that's monogamous?" Esme asks.
"I think it's bulls." Jed, her husband replies lovingly.
"Oh, I know it's hard. I'm a pin cushion." Esme tells Meredith.
"It's okay, don't worry. I won't stick until I find a good one." Meredith replies.
"Otters mate for life, you know." Esme tells the interns.
"Excuse me?" Meredith asks. "As do bulls, I suppose."
"Okay, I got it." Meredith tells her, pushing the needle in. "Hold still. It's gonna take a second for the tube to fill."
"Hmm, I've always like otters." Liam tells them, smiling.
"I've always been more of a dog person myself." Meredith replies.
"I'm a cat person." Maddison shrugs, making Liam scoff out a chuckle.
"Why am I not surprised?" He tells the intern.
"What is that supposed to mean?" She asks, making Esme and Jed laugh.
"Oh, how long have you been together?" Esme asks, making the three doctors exchange looks.
"SHOULDN'T HE BE MORE excited? Maybe he's in shock, I dunno." George rants standing at the nurse's desk. "But I mean he survived! It's huge!"
"Oh, my God!" Maddison groans. "Can you talk about anything else."
"He's gotta realize that things happen for a reason." George continues.
"Oh yeah, my ex-boyfriend moved his wife to Seattle. Reason, To torture me." Meredith says.
