Chapter 23 (Part 1 of 2)

“No fucking way.” Adam turned around and stared at his mate for a good long minute and then glanced back over at Jason. Twins? They didn’t even look alike. They didn’t share the same color hair. Dava’s long locks were the color of summer wheat and Jason’s was as dark as coal. How in the hell could they be twins?

“I don’t understand,” Dava voiced as she mulled over what she just heard. “What in the world would make you think that he,” she pointed at Jason, “was my brother. He is an original, I’m not. You were there Uncle Aiden, you were there when the Alpha helped save me.” She started to shake her head. “No, no it’s not possible. It just can’t be.”

“I don’t understand it either, sweetheart but I know what I saw. He has the mark. The same mark in the same place that you do. It’s just above his heart and it’s a mirror image of yours. I’ve only heard of the twin mark, never actually witnessed it and until we get back to Pack land to consult the elders on the Council we can only assume it means one thing.”

“And what is that,” Adam asked, wrapping his arm around Dava’s shoulders. He was having one helluva time wrapping his mind around this new information.

“That they are siblings. I know if doesn’t make any sense but not much in life these days does.” He shrugged his shoulders and smiled wryly. “We do what we can do and keep on trucking.”

“That’s your answer,” Adam asked incredulously. “Accept it and move on?”

“I didn’t say it was a perfect answer, but right now it’s all I got. Do you have any better ideas?”

“I want to see,” Adam said. “I want to see his mark before he gets anywhere near Dava.”

Aiden sighed. They really didn’t have time for this shit. It was getting later by the minute and soon it would be dark but as he watched the Alpha pup’s determination to protect what he deemed his, he knew that they wouldn’t be going anywhere until he saw the mark for himself.

Aiden looked down at Jason who was still staring wide eyed at Dava. Since he spilled the beans Jason had stopped struggling and was just standing there transfixed, not sure what to think or say.

“If I move my hand and let you go, do you think you can control yourself?”

Ever so slowly, Jason turned back to Aiden. Without blinking he simply nodded. Never in his life did he think he would agree with Adam on anything- until now. There was no fucking way that Dava Morale was his sister. He would have known something like that, right? His parents would have mentioned at some point in his last eighteen years that he had a sister out there, somewhere. This Dark Horse Mercenary has flipped his lid if he really expected him to buy that load of bull crap.

Aiden took his time releasing Jason. He watched his every move, monitored his every twitch until he finally let go of him completely and took a step back. “Will you show them your mark?”

Lowering his head, Jason eyed his birthmark. The mark had been there as long as he could remember. He’d asked his mom about it and she passed it off as a birthmark. He’d never thought twice about it. “I suppose,” he muttered and raised his head to pin his gaze on Dava. “But I want to see her’s too.”

“Like hell!” Adam exclaimed, pushing his mate behind him. “Nobody see’s her there but me. She’s mine!”

“And you mate,” Dava pushed Adam out of her way and before he could stop her, she nimbly jumped out of the truck, landing smoothly on the pavement, ”really need to get over it.”
