It came that Aurostousa grew
And music all her soul behooved
So harpers strings then always rang
And minstrel's voices always sangWhenever princess held her court
The music makers made their sport.
What obv'ous thing so few did know
She favored song much more than gold. But Erotokitos notice took
The only one beyond her looks
To see the efforts princess gave
To hear the music others made. And at this time their vaunted land
Had many tinkers found at hand
There many wonder workers laid
And craft of automata made. And flocks of brass that flapped their wings
On metal trees their sinew springs
With Lions wrought in blacksmiths lair
Did guard the throne from all who daredApproach the kings of Eastern Rome
Who sat atop hydraulic thrones
That raised and lowered at just command
Of men who ruled those ancient landsAnd orreries these workers craft
To show to men the planet's paths
Ornate beyond their simple goal
To meager knowledge then bestow.Yet none the automata rang
Or any type of music sang
Despite the princess wishes gave
That such a craft should be yet madeSo maid alone when sent along
To bed could still there hear her songs...Please comment vote and share.
