Tristan and Isolde

39 5 21

And Arthur's court with table round
In Camelot those days was found
Where knights and kings performed their acts
With great and noble chilv'ric tact.

And Tristan youngest knight at court
For Uncle went to dueling sport
And slew the Irish Marhuas fast
By hand and blade the youth had cast

And won for uncle Isolde's hand
The fairest dame in Irish lands.
But Mark his uncle deemed it well
That Tristan went where Isolde dwelled

And fetched her back to land he lived
So king to knight that task did give.
And Tristan went across the sea
As Mark his lord did present head

And there the Isolde fair amazed
When Tristan first his eyes had laid.
And Isolde also saw her help
That Mark had sent to land she dwelt

Was goodly kept and strong and fast
And given well to guarding task.
And on the path they winded home
Across the many lands they roamed

Morgan the fay did turmoult sow
Along the paths the pair did strow.
And many dragons Tristan slew
And many wizards sword did hew

Who came then Isolde's life to claim
By dint of spell and heat of flame.
So Mark had overcame them all
This perfect plan but single flaw

That both before they ever lived
To each the other heart had give
Though neither knew this secret fact
Yet still on ancient promise act.

But both their duty pair do know
And all the feeling heart bestows
They lock away and hidden keep
Though each for other's heart beseeched.

And so their courtly love remained
By act of treason still unstained...
