When youth and love were used for trade
Securing pledges nations made
And duty marriage vows confined
Instead of love those words to bind
Did Henry set the English throne
From which he every power known
To mortal men those days imbeds
Except to chose what maid he weds.
His rule then given little mend
Except by those who willing end
Would meet to dare the wrath of king
And all the sorrow act would bring.
Those days was Henry marriage bid
His hand the queen of France to give
Although already heart belonged
To maid amidst the English throng
Who's Rosamund the rose of earth
Who's fairness gave that title worth
But Henry did as feudal laws
Those days on all the nobles called
By customs come and ancient give
Now ancient from the times we live
Though long practiced now long are ceased
For lack of tactics very ease.
Who's taste had even ere this day
Those steep commands to king were gave
Soured such that those of note
Already of its sorrow wrote.
But Henry darst not end his tryst
But hid from realm his secret vice
By building maze from hedges plied
In such a way affair to hide.
And both the pair to center go
There time in love to secret bode
Whenever Henry signal lights
They stole away to love's respite.
