When Europe's dark and Rome is fell
In Middle East a wealth now dwells
As great as any found before
When Cyrus waged his battle choreBefore that Alexander reigned
Who all their hopes by sword had tamed.
And Laila Alfaaz also holds
Some measure of this newfound goldIt's families grow and gain esteem
And pride takes hold although unseen.
This potent mix allows their wills
With stubborn bent to be instilled...And although doing acts yet great
For which their praised at later date
By men in other realms of earth,
Does sorrow mix along with mirthFor greater woe has man not found
Than those eschewed when mind is sound
But quick embraced in lesser states
When solace gave by blaming fate'sNo longer grant by dint of choice
Of acts yet done or words we've voiced.
Yet beauty strange can sadness hold
When joy though lost is found in foldLike muted colors also shine
When duller neighbors they may find.
As such this tale I seek to sing
This same sensation also brings...That town of which I former spoke
Has gained it's name through tale I note
For long ago a pair are found
As children living in that townWho even though are children still
By force unknown have love instilled
Beyond the grasp of age they keep
Though thought to young to love beseech. But though from age that's young they know
Is age not still their greatest foe.
As Layla grew her father's dreams
Did also grow and higher deemHer station grant much more than Qays
The boy to whom her heart was gave.
And man another found to give
His daughter's hand as pride had bid.
