And Thisbe went to place they found As point from which they would abscond Her lover Pyramus to see Before they both from home would flee.
And lo a lioness stained red From blood of prey the beast had bled Did frighten Thisbe far from scene On which the pair were very keen.
Her scarf she left behind in haste In fear that beast would give to chase. And lion just as cat did maw And shred that scarf with fangs and claws.
Then came there Pyramus with sword To place they both in secret swore To meet and run away that night And brave the world with all their might.
There man the scarf of maid beheld Beneath the claws of beast who's fell. Then came there Pyramus with arm And all his strength that cat to harm
And felled the beast with single blow By arm that youth and grace bestowed. And thinking Thisbe dead by dint Of scarf that's bloody made and rent
On sword did fall to end his days And let the wilder lands be grave. Then Thisbe maid not gave to spurn Her love to place did quiet return
And saw the man on top his blade Then also maid her life there gave...
