Ben's pov

Dealing with another person all of the time was a weird experience. Riley was weirdly invested in some things and completely uninterested in others. Like he spent all day yesterday making fun of my teachers tie but couldn't be bothered to help me search the news for potentially important events.
Honestly despite Riley's weirdness he was easier to interact with than nearly everyone else, in part because with him I didn't have to hide anything. My parents had already caught me talking to Riley twice before I learned that he could hear my thoughts if I directed them to him. While Riley had helped me play the incidents off as having an imaginary friend it was embarrassing to have to pretend I had an imaginary friend. After all that was what children did.
{ " Oh come on it's not that bad. Every child. Has an imaginary friend at some point." Riley said making me realize I had inadvertently sent the thoughts his way. }
Sending thoughts towards each other wasn't an exact science. Occasionally I'd barely feel his presence and other times when he was paying less attention his thoughts would flutter over the mental gap between us and invade my own thoughts. I had often wondered how much of my thoughts he heard in comparison but didn't quite have the courage to ask.
{ " It's childish and I don't have time for it." I said to him in mind. I was nearly seven, imaginary friends were for kids who didn't have to worry about potential world ending threats. " We need to focus on getting into duel academy. Speaking of which Seto Kaiba is about to make an announcement , it could be important."}
I went to the living room and turned on the TV so I could see what the announcement was. Ten minutes later I sat there dumbfounded.
" Kaiba is announcing a card creation competition where he'll send the winners cards into space." I state in disbelief.
{"Yup after all if aliens do exist we might as well teach them how to duel." He stated in a very serious manner, though I could practically feel laughter radiating from his side of our mental link as he referenced the video we just watched.}
{"After your birthday in a few weeks we need to make a trip to a game store. Kame games, if I recall the name correctly." Riley said shocking me with the declaration. " With a bit of luck they will have the cards we need or barring that, some interesting ones at least.}
{" Kame games?" I question, " Why there?"}
{ " It's obviously not a well known fact but Yugi Muto's Grandfather owns the shop." Riley began, " While it may be simple wish fulfillment I would like to go and see it in person. Plus there is a small chance that Yugi could be there."}
{"Alright we'll start trying to get cards there first." I say as I turn off the TV and head up to bed.}
