Only A Matter Of Time

Marcus eyed me up sceptically but waved a hand threw the air at him and dug around in a secret pocket in my backpack. With a jingle I pulled the keys out, the keychain around my middle finger. "Alright, let's go but I'm taking more than just me to this house" he sighed walked back through the trees to our crew. "I don't blame you, I hope they haven't ransacked the house though" I mumbled when I caught up to him after zipping up and adjusting my bag before I hoisted it back onto my shoulders. He gave me a sympathetic look and whispered "In your wildest dreams". I let my pace slow down so I could walk with the others, I couldn't bare the thought of something that ment the world to me ruined. Someone who ment more than the world to me, their paradise obliterated, the only thing I have left. Oh, how the memories made my heart sting. I felt like balling my eyes out. We quiclky dashed to the trucks waiting for us and with a shout we were on the move again. The trucks parked on the outskirts of the town meaning they would be less likely to be spotted or heard but left us vulnerable to a slow getaway.

"I don't fucking believe it!" Marcus breathed cursing, he was standing behind me on the back patio of my Auntie's house as I unlocked the doors with their keys. "I guess miracles do work" I whispered back as I shoved the keys in my shorts left pocket and crept through the house over the the front door which my Auntie barely used. "This one's locked as well and the one up there behind the junk. Nothing's missing" I noticed a particular picture frame still standing on the TV cabinet, creeping over I picked it up using the last bit of strength not to shed a tear when I saw  the picture eventhough I knew what it was before I looked "and if this is still here than they for sure haven't been.  Who knows what would fucking happen if this was missing..."  trailed of leaving the obvious awnser to hang in the air from my harshly whispered statement. My friends gave me a pat on the back and a hug before we gathered what we need and searched for any extra supplies. "Let's go. They for sure would've herd your cute doggies barking" Zephyr harshly whispered but when  he mentioned Flic's and I'm dogs his voice melted.

The ride back was a bit more cramped considering the more soulders crammed into the back of our truck, we'd pilled the extra supplies into the second truck in our three truck convoy as it was the smallest and the only one with a tailgate. But the soilders smashed together didn't seemed to mind as they were mainly focussed on the two new four legged doggies in the back with us that we're giving them lots of attention. Maya came walking awkwardly walking over to me and dropped at my feet making herself comfortable, everytime their was a bump in the road or the vehicles would turn Melody and Maya would wobble where they were standing or  walking. "Seems someone's had enough affection for now!" Alexis laughed, she was sitting next to me and found it hilarious that Mayas tail kept waking Melody in the face who too had crashed ad Flic's legs on the otherside of me. The Leading Seaman from the Australian navy dusted off her blue camo uniform and questioned Marcus about something, I had no idea what they were saying because it was all that military talk. "Makayla, Alexis wants to know if you guys would like to come aboard her ship for short trip?" Marcus asked, his eyes seemed to have a sparkle of curiosity in them. I felt my heart harden and I became a bit cautious. "Why? And where would this particular trip be to?" I mussed letting a hint of caution slip into my voice.

Alexis smilled and responded "I'd like to have you on board for three days while we travel to ACT" her voice was like she was speaking to a friend but her tone had some hint of firmness a soilder should when asking a Question. I blinked in surprise, my mind was now completely blank and I couldn't think of anything to say. "Why three days if it takes seventeen hours to reach the capital? Especially with your ships, they'd be faster than any other ship" I questioned. Alexis's shoulders slumped and she replied "We've been asked to pick up some supplies along the way and we'll be staying I'm the capital for a day. I know three days is a long time away from here and I understand if you don't want to come or if you want to bring your friends along but.... The Prime Minister has gotten word of you guys and what you've been doing, he wants to meet you's, atleast one of you guys. I don't know what he wants but...."she gave a sigh and passed me a letter she'd grabbed from a pocket within her uniform, her name tag had twisted up when she'd grabbed her uniform to pull the letter out.

And now her name tag read 'RAN' I couldn't hold back my laughter as long with so many others, they were turning it to coughing or snorting their noses. Some just laughed, while me and Marcus snickered and joked about the new name. Finally she straightend it and laughed when Marcus shouted to her "You finally noticed, Leading Seaman Ran!" he mock saluted as he spoke his voice laced with humour. This time Alexis was the one to erupt with Laughter and the whole crew followed suit. I sat down on my bunk once we got back and pilled the letter from my bag. The letter seal may have been opened but that didn't stop me from closing it amd tracing  a finger over the red wax of the Australian Coat Of Arms. The Emu and Kangaroo holding up the sheild filled with all the states flags looking majestic as ever. I opened the letter and slipped out the folded cardboard like paper, I'd expected Albanese's hand writing to be a mix of lines and loops that conected together to form elegant cursive writing. Curse that stupid writing, always fancy but super hard to read! Except it looked like nay other normal persons writing, although neat and with the Prime Minister of Australia's signature at the bottom. Totally not intimidating.
