"So you're really doing this huh?", I asked Jamar.
"Yep."
He finished locking up the door to his Gatehouse.
"But you know you don't have to."
"Maya, I don't want to put any of my friends in danger. Closing down my Gatehouse is the best way to insure they stay safe. Because I know those jerks would come knocking this place down the first chance they get", he replied.
I nodded.
"Got it."
He caressed my face.
"Thanks for understanding baby", he said.
"You're welcome."
We got in the car and drove off.
"So, my dad's finally in protective custody", I said.
"That's good. He's one person we don't have to worry about."
"Yep, but now my house is open to anyone to break into", I replied.
Jamar looked over his head.
"I already got that covered."
"What?"
"I asked some of my guys to keep a lookout at your house", he replied.
I smiled.
"Really?"
"Yeah."
I hugged him.
"Jamar, you always know how to make my heart melt", I said.
"I have my moments", he replied.
As we continued driving, I felt a quick breeze across me. I looked back. There was nothing.
"Hold up. Stop the car."
"What?"
"Stop the car", I said.
He stopped the car.
"What's wrong?", he asked.
"There's someone following us."
Jamar looked around.
"I don't see anyone."
I got out the car.
"Where are you?!", I yelled.
"Maya-"
"Hold on", I said.
A shadow flew past us.
"There it is again", I said.
Jamar looked beside him and stopped the shadow in plain sight.
It was a guy with a faded cut and a blue shirt.
"Malik?"
"Hey Jamar", he replied.
"What are you doing here?", Jamar asked.
"I came to help you guys out."
Jamar rolled his eyes.
"Malik, I told you to stay back", he said.
"I know, but you're going up against someone you don't know and I thought you might need backup", he replied.
Jamar looked at me.
"Maya, this is Malik."
"Hey", I said waving.
"Wassup."
He looked around.
"Malik?"
"Yeah?"
"Where are the others?", Jamar asked.
"They're at LAC: Night Club. I told them to keep a lookout for the two crooks", he replied.
He sighed.
"Ok, thanks."
"Yeah, no problem."
"So what now?", I asked.
"I don't know. But I haven't seen ole boy lately", Malik replied
"Ole boy?", Jamar asked.
"Yeah, Zion."
Jamar looked at me.
"What do you mean you haven't seen him?"
"I mean, I haven't seen him since last week. I'm kinda worried about him."
"Dang", Jamar replied.
"Ok this is crazy", I said.
"Yeah I know."
"So now what? Everyone goes missing?", Jamar said with an attitude.
I went up to him and patted his back.
"Hey, we'll find him", I said.
"Yeah, you can bet on that", Malik agreed.
"Thanks."
We got in the car and continued down the road. I don't know what this meant for Chicago, but I knew what it meant for us. We were running out of time. And soon, we won't have a choice but to take action immediately.
"Ok next, we find Zion", I said
"But first, we gotta get something to eat. I am hungry.
Me and Jamar looked at each other and laughed.
"Alright man", Jamar replied.
We knew this road wasn't going to be easy, but if you had a handsome boyfriend like Jamar and his trustworthy friend Malik then you pretty much had what you needed. At least for the most part.
