12 YEARS AGO (THIRD POV)

The young boy stared at the door she left through for what seemed like a decently long while.

Some desperate hope in him thought that she might reenter, that she might return to gather the coloured whale picture she had left behind—or maybe to even talk with him more.

But when the door reopened, he was more than disappointed to see his very own mother.

A frown appeared on his face, visible to his oddly cheerful mother who decided to take a seat next to her son, lifting him from the chair and placing him uncomfortably on her lap.

She grabbed his face, making the young boy look up at his mother.

"Now, what's got my precious boy in a daze, hm?" She raises her brows, letting her gaze linger over his.

Letting out a sigh, Silver looks at the table beside them, cherishing the colourful drawing and grasping it into his small hands.

"Will Serenity visit us again?" He asks, hopeful.

His mother looked nearly surprised at the question, nevertheless, she laughed wildly, taking the drawing into her own palm and staring at it with a smile.

"I had a feeling you would ask me that," She murmurs with a smile, making the boy confused. He tilts his head in bewilderment, nudging his hand back toward the picture.

"Will she?" He asked again, folding the paper precisely with care—just in case she came over again he hadn't wanted it to get crumbled or ruined.

The woman stares down at her son, taking his palms into her own to grab all of his attention. He gapes up at her in wonder, running thoughts of the girl with pretty grey eyes in his mind.

"You will be seeing her again, Silver," She begins, brushing her hand through his hair gently. "And you, my son, will be much older, stronger. Serenity is the key to our rightful place."

The boy didn't understand. What he did understand was that he wouldn't be seeing her any time soon. Nevertheless, he continued to listen to his mother's words, not knowing the great impact they'd have on him later in life.

"Silver, you will have Serenity right in the palm of your hands. You will make her yours, grant her trust from her family enough to have our loyalty in their own hands."

"When the time is right, we will take them down." She grasps his chin, firmly looking at the innocent boy. "And you will not fall for her. You will retrieve her trust and make your blood family proud, Sí?"

He nods slowly, masking his fear of his mother with an inquisitive glance.

"How would I even do that, Mamma?" His innocence made her laugh, red hair framing her face in strands.
