The four of us gathered into Coach's office, all holding the same dreaded look. Chemistry class was over and Derek was outside watching the whole thing go down. I knew he was planning for him and his little minions to kill Lydia. We had to do something before they did.

"Derek's outside waiting for Lydia." Scott informed, looking across the circle we were standing in.

Allison rose her eyebrows, "Waiting to kill her?"

"If he thinks she's the kanima, then yes, especially after what happened at the pool."

"It's not her." I tried, even though I didn't believe it myself. I didn't know whether I was just in denial, but I just had this feeling. I would be able to sense it. I should be able to sense it. Something was off with her but I didn't think this is what it was.

My brother sighed, "Dev, she didn't pass the test, man. Nothing happened."

I shook my head, "Scott, it can't be her. I'd rather freaking die."

"It doesn't matter, because Derek thinks it's her."Allison pointed out. "So either we can convince him that he's wrong, or... we've got to figure out a way to protect her."

"Well, I really don't think he's gonna do anything here, not at school." Scott said.

"What about after school? What if we can prove that Derek's wrong?"

I rose my eyebrows, "By three o'clock?"

"There could be something in the bestiary."

Stiles scoffed, "Oh, you mean the 900 - page book written in Archaic Latin that none of us can read? Good luck with that."

Allison's eyes narrowed in thought, "Actually, I think I know someone who might be able to translate it."

Scott exhaled, "Uh, I can talk to Derek, maybe convince him to give us a chance to prove that it's not her."

"I can keep an eye on Lydia." I chimed in.

Scott nodded, "But if anything happens, you guys let me and Devin handle it, okay?"

His girlfriend looked at him in confusion, "What does that mean?"

"That you can't heal like we do. I just don't want you to get hurt." He explained. I swallowed awkwardly as I noticed the look of annoyance on Allison's face.

The girl started digging through her bag, picking out her crossbow. "I can protect myself."
Scott's face fell, the boy looking down. She then looked at him in concern. "What? Did something else happen?"

"I just don't want you getting hurt. Seriously, if anything goes wrong, you call me, okay? I - I don't care if your dad finds out. Call, text, scream, yell, whatever. I'll hear you and I'll find you as fast as I can. We have until 3:00." He expressed, his girlfriend nodding as he started to walk away. He then swiftly turned back around at the sound of something shooting in the air, the boy catching an arrow in his hand. My eyes widened as I looked behind me to see Stiles holding Allison's crossbow, his eyes wide as the girl yanked the weapon from him.

"Sensitive trigger."

We couldn't figure anything out before school ended. Allison got Ms. Morrell to translate some of the words in the Bestiary. Ms. Morrell's Archaic Latin wasn't great. All she got was that the Kanima seeks a friend. I didn't see how that helped anything right now. We still needed a way to prove that Lydia wasn't the Kanima. So we all had to protect her.

All of us being Jackson, Allison, Stiles, and me. Scott was still running around the school trying to figure something out. Trying to call Derek and his minions off.
