"You are so lucky, Artemis!" Jari Smith, a good friend of mine, whispered to me as we stood behind the counter at the school's morning store the next morning. Jari is just a little shorter than me with shoulder length hair and braces.

"Jewel, you do not know how scared, excited, and afraid I was when I got his comment on Instagram then his Kik then his call." I whispered back to her.

"You had to have fainted." Jari said.

"I almost did. I did scream though." I smiled.

"We have to really practice so we can record us dancing and singing then have them see the video." Jari thought aloud.

"No. I don't wanna seem like I want their attention to become famous. That's not right, Jewel. You know they are just normal guys who just had a chance." I said as someone handed me money to put in the register.

"Yeah. You're right." Jari nodded and sold someone something.

"What did they say about your age?" Jari asked after a while.

"They were shocked that I was thirteen and in the eighth grade. They thought I was sixteen and in eleventh grade." I sighed.

"Do you think Prince will still talk to you even though there's an age difference?" She asked.

"Age is just a word that represents a number." I shrugged.

"Complicated ass." She bumped my shoulder and laughed. I copied her.

"I know I am." I smiled.

"Shawty what's your name? What's your number? You heard about my age, well forget that number." Jari sang as she teased me.

"Shut up." I rolled my eyes as we put everything away into the cabinets.

"What if you two met one day?" Jari asked as we walked to class on the third floor of the building.

"Then we'll meet." I said.

"You need to be excited! You are talking to--mmmmhhhmmm!" I covered Jari's mouth as she started to bring attention to us with her shouting.

Everyone turned to look at us. Middle school students are so nosey and messy.

"She is just excited about the dance this week!" I said to everyone. They nodded and cheered, thinking about the dance. I sighed in relief.

"Jari Smith, I almost snapped your neck. If you do not keep your mouth shut about...Jacob...I will kill you. You know how this school is about MB." I scolded her.

"I'm sorry, Artemis, but you really need to show me you are excited about talking to Pri-- Jacob." She whispered as we stopped by her classroom.

"Mmhhmm. Have fun in Ms. Hampton's class, Jewel. Oh and tell Michael I said, "Heyyy!"." I winked at her as she walked into math class and walked to Science and Social Studies class. I heard Jari's laughter from across the hall.

"Hey Artemis." Mya Forbes, a friend and classmate of mine, smiled.

"Hey Mya." I smiled as I sat down.

"Hey Artemis." Alexa Nguyen, my best friend, said.

"Hey Alexa. What are we doing?" I asked.

"Waiting on Ms. Gardner quietly. Well, we are. They're being loud." Alexa rolled her eyes pointedly across the classroom.
