Seeing how it would take a moment to send a message to the Nine Heavens and then for the God of Justice to come back to the dragon realm even if he left immediately, the two of them decided to just go and take care of matters immediately.

On the way out of the palace, Jing Yi couldn't help but sigh. "I guess if the wedding robes won't be too elaborate, then maybe we can even get married next week already. You know, if Xin Lan is healed today, then Leng Jin Yu and ... his husband will probably go and get ready tomorrow or the day after that. I guess there will still be some other things to take care of so adding another one day or two might be necessary. But after that, we could already do it."

Qiu Ling's gaze was pained but he nodded. "So I guess that would mean a wedding in four or five days."

Jing Yi nodded. Originally, this should have been a happy thought but, right now, it only pained him. "I guess this isn't what either of us imagined, is it?"

Qiu Ling shook his head. "It isn't. I really wanted to give you a grand wedding. That was what you asked for after all."

Jing Yi looked up at him and then reached out to take his hand. "Actually, I don't need it to be a grand wedding. Just any wedding would have been enough for me. You know that I decided on this because I wanted to be put first. But I'm not Jing He. I'm not the crown prince of some realm. I'm just a commoner. A grand wedding is not something I ever imagined to have. I don't need it either. He needs it for ... status I guess. But for me, it doesn't matter. I could see how you might need it though."

Qiu Ling looked at him, feeling that Jing Yi had already forgotten that the weddings of the dragons were really as simple as it could get. He didn't remind him of that though. After all, what did it matter any longer? "A simple wedding isn't bad."

"It isn't. Actually, that might be the one part I'm a bit happy about." He fell silent for a moment and then sighed. "Well, happy about it for myself. I will admit that, for a moment, I had the thought that it would be nice to have a really elaborate wedding. Jing He would be angry about that."

Qiu Ling glanced at him, but he wisely didn't say anything about it. Jing Yi was still jealous of Jing He. He would never manage to get that out of him. If he had really given him that wedding, if they had managed to live together for a couple more years as spouses, maybe that jealousy would have lessened. But as things stood, there was no way to ever reconcile Jing Yi with his original incarnation.

Jing Yi sighed again, squeezing Qiu Ling's hand. "You know, I'd feel a bit more reassured if you could say something to that."

Qiu Ling could only smile wryly. "Well, what do you want me to say? Jing He ... I don't think he would've been angry necessarily. Disappointed ... might be more like it. He is thinking a lot about his image. Me having a wedding with somebody else — even if that person is his own reincarnation — would devastate him."

"That was the reason you originally didn't want to do it."

"I know. But I owe this to you. I also realize that. We ... probably wouldn't have gotten to this point if I behaved differently in the past."

Jing Yi looked at him and shook his head but by now, they had already reached the streets and he wasn't about to say these things in front of others. Anyway, maybe it was also better to leave these unsaid. After all, it wasn't like they hadn't talked about this before and by now, it didn't matter anymore, did it? In another week, everything would be over. Why should they still waste time rehashing everything?

He stepped closer to Qiu Ling, holding onto his arm. "You know, let's drop the topic. If we only have a few more days together, then I want them to count."

Qiu Ling looked at him, not sure what to say. "So, what makes those days count? One day, I'm already going to leave you alone. Are you sure you're still alright with that? I could tell ... those two that I'm not going to accompany them. We could spend the day together instead." To be honest, he would hate to miss out on that day but considering the circumstances, it might indeed be better to do so.

Jing Yi shook his head though. "No, you can do that. You know, it's not like you're the only person in my life. Even though there weren't many, there are a few. That day, I want to use it to say goodbye to everyone else.

"There's Xiao Dong here in the dragon realm and Duan Ming and Lan Ling as well even though I didn't know them all that well. I also want to return to the mortal realm for a bit. I'll go back to the Yun Zou Sect and see how everyone is doing. Anyway, time runs differently so even if I take a moment longer, it won't matter. I'll be back long before you return."

Qiu Ling looked at him. For a moment, he couldn't help but worry if this was Jing Yi running away. But thinking of that, he also couldn't help but feel a pang of guilt.

He was asking Jing Yi to lay down his own life. How was that an easy decision? Agreeing so straightforwardly, it actually was surprising. And maybe he would get cold feet when the time came close. It wouldn't be strange. And maybe he should be allowed to have that moment.

Anyway, even if Jing Yi suddenly vanished, it wasn't like he couldn't find him again. There was the mark of the dragon on Jing Yi so he could always find him no matter where he went. But if he didn't want to be found, then maybe he should accept that.

Yes, he wanted Jing He to come back but he should also give Jing Yi the time he needed to really be ready. Because otherwise, who knew what it would do to Jing He to wake up after his reincarnation was cheated out of his life? Knowing Jing He, that might actually cause trouble.
