Fei Bai Mu thought for a moment and finally nodded. "Very well. I will help you with this. But we will do this my way."

Xin Lan raised his silver brows, not quite sure what she meant. "Your way? Is there more than one way to do something like this?"

The Sect Master smiled in return and motioned at the array in front of them. "I have sworn to protect my people. That means the sect, the Elders and disciples in it, and my own disciples. This matter ... I am doing it because I believe that you're right.

"This man ... there's something strange going on about him and Xiao Yu falling in love like that. And yes, it might not be the best for Xiao Yu to be with him. I genuinely believe that. That is why I am willing to give this a try. But ... there is a wrong way to go about this. And that would be to just do it, hope that he screws up and that that will be enough for my disciple to leave him. But, rather than that, we should be honest about this."

She turned away from Xin Lan and folded her hands behind her back before she started to walk around the perimeters of the stone garden. She didn't explain immediately and instead just seemed to survey this place that she had probably inspected thousands of times while being the Sect Master.

Xin Lan wasn't sure what to make of this but if it helped her to make up her mind, he was alright with it. He silently followed, waiting for the main point of what she wanted to say.

Fei Bai Mu stopped when she had made it a quarter around the stone garden and finally turned back. "You know, this is for Hua Lin Yu, not for you."

"You just said that."

"I did. Or rather than that, I told you that I am doing this for his benefit. The thing is that you also need to realize this. This isn't just about ... getting rid of that man. If he was better for Xiao Yu, then if you truly love them, you should let them be."

Xin Lan gave a hum but it seemed doubtful. "He isn't. I know that he isn't."

Fei Bai Mu sighed, but she hadn't expected anything else. Xin Lan wasn't the type to waver or to think much about what others wanted. Not if it worked contrary to what he wanted. "Well, nonetheless, we need to let Xiao Yi find that out for himself. And he can only do that if he doesn't feel betrayed by us at the same time. Thus, we need to be honest about this."

This time, Xin Lan's expression was thoughtful. He might not have the same idea about this as Fei Bai Mu had, but he didn't think that making Hua Lin Yu doubt them would be a good idea either. If they did, it would only drive him further into that man's arms. That was something he could easily understand even without prior experience. "So, how do we do this? Should I ...?"

Fei Bai Mu shook her head. "Leave the explaining to me. Anyway, if it comes from you, he'd take it even worse considering the circumstances of your relationship. Even if I tell him, I'm afraid he won't be very open to hearing it. But it isn't like we have another option. We need to explain this to him so he understands and accepts. Otherwise, we can't take the next step. If he doesn't accept, then this plan of yours ... I will not take part in it."

Xin Lan raised his hands, feeling that he didn't have much of a choice. Anyway, he had come to her for help. Rejecting it now would be ... idiotic.

Fei Bai Mu nodded when he didn't contradict her and then motioned back at her palace. "Very well. Since we have come to an agreement, we should get to it immediately. The longer this goes on, the more difficult it will likely be. Let's not test our luck too much."

Xin Lan gave another hum and followed her quietly. When they arrived in the study, he couldn't help but look around. "Should I be out of sight?"

Fei Bai Mu shook her head. "No, I think it would be better if you were here. It may play a part in convincing Xiao Yu."

Once again, Xin Lan raised his brows at her. He really couldn't understand how this was supposed to make Hua Lin Yu more likely to agree. So far, he had hardly wanted to talk to him. Even if he did, everything coming out of his mouth seemed to be designed to rip his heart out. He really didn't think that his presence would be any kind of help. But then, he also wasn't sure how she wanted to go about this so he should probably just let her do this. In any case, what did he have to lose? If he tried alone, he would fail for sure.

Fei Bai Mu smiled and motioned at one of the chairs in front of the desk. "Just sit down and make yourself comfortable, maybe have a cup of tea. I'll send somebody to get Xiao Yu." Saying so, she walked back to the door and then waved for one of the disciples guarding outside the grand hall, telling them to get her youngest disciple and specifying that she didn't want anybody else to come. Then, she went back to Xin Lan, sitting down in her own seat, and pouring a cup of tea for herself. She offered some to Xin Lan but he really didn't look interested.

Right now, he was only interested in what would get him back his fiance. He didn't want to bother with niceties. So really, he just wanted this talk to get over with and do that test, and finally pull his fiance back into his arms. He didn't know what else to do.
