Life of a maid is so simple but complicated.

Simple in the sense that we don't need to walk in big skirts, have our hair yank out of the scalp and fasten with some demonic pins. And having to seat and tell jokes that are not even funny.

Complicated, phew when it has to do with what you do and where you belong.

Unfortunately that what gives me and others like me body ache.

My name is Iris Anna and am a maid. Not just any maid but a water maid.

Am sure you are thinking ' she must be in charge of getting water?' no that where you're wrong. Let me tell you in our kingdom the maid's have ranks and I happen to be in the lowest rank which is water maid.,

We are responsible for doing the laundry of both the royals and some high rank maid's, lord's and even knight that stays within the Palace.

I always day dream about being a lady's maid but reality then slap me hard because my mother before she died was a water maid and her mother and it goes on..............

Am not complaining I do love it sometimes but most times I hate it when I have to wash a knight socks, gross.

"Are you alright Iris", Rose my best friend asked

Yes,Never better. Came my dry reply

"So why are you holding the socks like that"? She asked looking at me weirdly

I looked down at my hand to see that I was strangling the socks, I sigh as I threw it into the water.

I hate socks I muttered with finality in my voice

"We all do she replied", As she shrugged her shoulder.

'Have you heard'Sara ask as she drop her laundry beside mine

Heard what? Rose and I asked in together

'The prince will be going to Crystal kingdom by next week for the tournament' she said in excitement

"And what has that got to do with us"? Askes a voice behind me I turn to see that other water maids has gathered to hear the latest gossip.

"Everything!"she exclaim dramatically as she flung her hands

What do you mean?I ask curiously

"The prince has been asked to go with a maid......

"Wait a maid?" I cut short the excited charter that was about to explode.

Doesn't he have a man servant? I asked again.

"Yes" was chroused.

Side charters ensure as we began
speculating what could have happened.

"Enough! You brainless water maids" she flung the insult at us

We all frown at the insult Sara threw our way. But kept mute

"He has a servant....... She was interupted

"Then what happened to him' someone asked

'Has he been relived of his duties?'ask another

'Perhaps he is sick' said another and we all ahhhhh at it. Trying to fix some pieces together

"Enough!she grounded out please can I do the talking. As she cast us a dirty glare daring us to make a sound.

"The maid will go to Crystal kingdom alongside George (his man servant) to aid the prince".

Ohohhhhh it finally dawned on us.

'So who is going'? Rose asked

'Who do you think, you dirty maids' a voice that sends chills down our spine hit our ears and us froze.

'Are you paid to stand around and gossip all day'? Evelyn ask as she kicked a basket out of her way.
I watch the cloth in it tumbled in to the river and a low hiss was released from a water maids behind me

With her talking we cast our eyes elsewhere not daring to look at her.

Evelyn is rumored to be with George and she is also a ladies maid to the prince Niece. So her rank makes it easy for her to us bully.

'What are you waiting for idiots'. She yelled

Everyone scattered about as I bend to pick my basket of washed clothes, And walk away with Rose in tow.

"Oh I pity the prince" Rose whisper

Why I ask confused

"She won't be of any help but will only fawn on George if she ends up going"
She explained.

You think they're really together?

"Of course Mary saw them her self."

Ohh was my reply not really interested in the topic

I wish I'll get chosen, or better still you get chosen.Rose said as we drop the basket in it supposed place.

You have lost it Rose. I replied laughing
