Family
"Blood is thicker than water"
"They are always going to choose your dad over me"
"They are blood related, I'm only in the family due to our failed marriage"
That is what my mother said
After I asked to see my older cousin's hours after the first thanksgiving dinner
She knew she was invited
But still held resentment
Toward my dad and his past actions
Said "they don't want me there"
Then why did they actively ask where you were?
"They don't care about me"
Then why did they want to know how you were doing?
Family isn't always blood related
So, the saying "Blood is thicker than water"
Is really outdated
And maybe even overrated
Family can be who you want it to be
Your best friend of 10 years can be family
The stepfather you mother married when you were 10 can be your father
No, you are not biologically related
But he acted like your father when you needed one the most
Just like home isn't always where you reside
Home is what you make it
A small cottage in the forest can be home for some
Others it could be a good book universe
With the characters you love

okay so this one was based on some things my mom said to me during the first thanksgiving that my dad was not there at, after their divorce..... so I was emotional the day I wrote this one. me and my mom have always had a rocky relationship but now we are working on it. also sorry for not updating in a few days, I have been really busy with school and other things:)
