i watch as dumbledore pours slughorn's memory in the pensive, i looked at dumbledore before taking a deep breath and entering the memory
"i was in the library, in the restricted actually, i read something about rare magic, and i thought you could enlighten me about it, it's called, if i remember it, a horcrux" tom spoke
"i-i beg your pardon" slughorn stuttered
"horcrux. i came across the term while reading and i didn't fully understand it"
"i'm not sure what you were reading but this, this is very dark stuff tom. very dark indeed"
"which is why, i came to you"
slughorn looked down at his hands then back at tom
"a horcrux is an object in which a person concealed part of their soul in it" slughorn answered
"i don't understand how that works now sir" tom said cooly as he leaned against the table
"one splits their soul and hides part of it in an object. doing so will protect you, should be attacked and your body destroyed"
"protected?" tom asks confused
"the part of your soul that has been hidden still remains. in other words, you cannot die"
a smirk grew along toms face, he turned away, staring into the fireplace
"how does one split their soul" tom said still staring into the fireplace
"tom, i think you know the answer to that"
"murder."
"yes" slughorn sighed "killing splits ones soul. it's a violation of nature"
"can you only do it once? split your soul" tom twirled a ring on his finger "for instance, let's say seven-"
"seven? merlins beard tom. isnt it bad enough to think about killing one person? to rip the soul into seven pieces, tell me this is all hypothetical. all academic, right tom?"
"of course sir, it'll be like our little secret"
the memory faded away into a puff of black smoke, i pull my head out and look at slughorn
"s-sir?"
dumbledore put his hand up and a sign to be quiet
"this is beyond anything i could imagine
"did he succeed?"
dumbledore nodded and slughorn stayed quiet
"you mean to say he actually succeeded? in making a horcux?"
