(Minori's POV)

"Minori!" Mom yelled up to my room where I was listening to J-Rock music on my earphones from my iPod. "I know you can hear me! You better turn off that music, and go to bed already!"

I sighed as I tugged off my earphones and turned off the iPod.

"Yes! Mom!" I yelled right back.

My mom and I lived alone together, and she knew me well. She's the only family I have as far as I know. I don't even know who my dad is, and neither does my mom. Funny enough! What was even funnier was that I had been conceived at a rave party!

At least I found it funny!

I quickly brushed my shoulder length red hair even though it was still wet from the hot shower I had taken about thirty minutes before. A glance in the mirror showed my green eyes...

The only thing I had inherited from my unknown father, because my mother was completely Korean. Meaning, she was petite, pale with soft black hair, and brown eyes that were tilted. I had inherited her looks completely except for her eyes.

Putting the brush down on the counter, I went and turned off the light before climbing into bed for the night. Then slowly, I drifted to sleep...

I found myself in the middle of a golden field. The wheat stalks rose up to my knees. Looking around, I saw nothing except the wheat...

"Run! Run! Run!" A firm voice suddenly pleaded to me.

Surprisingly, I picked up fear in that voice. I looked around and still I saw nothing...

"Gggrrrr..." The growl came like a warning.

I got goosebumps from the sound, and it wasn't due to fear...

"Ggrrr..." It went as it became closer.

Before I even saw it, I realized that the goosebumps were due to anticipation!

"Grrr!" The animal growled once more as it appeared before me.

I lost my breath at the sight of the beast.

It was simply to beautiful! The body of a wolf, the pelt of a tiger, and the wings of a hawk! And its eyes! Oh! Its eyes!

The eyes were so out of place! And not because they were a deep dark brown, but because they were so human! So human and beautifully captivating!

I timidly reached a hand out wanting oh so much to slip my fingers through its pelt. The beast seemed almost shy when I reached out that I almost took my hand away. I didn't wish to make her disappear!

Her?!

Then the shock of her butting her head under my hand overcame my shock at her gender. The fur was silky to the touch! I couldn't help but trace the designs on her pelt so I scooted closer and she purred as I scratched her. She butted my flat chest in a playful manner even as I suddenly got another shock from touching her wings!

Her wings were soft as my fingers glided over the feathers.

"Can you fly?" I couldn't help but ask.

I hadn't been expecting a response so I was not prepared for the whimper that escaped her throat.

Nor did I expect the hurt that flashed in her eyes as she lifted her eyes up to gaze into mine.

Then just as suddenly as the hurt came it left and in its place was a guarded expression as she turned around and leaped away from me. She turned to glance at me one final time before being swallowed up by the taller wheat stalks. I couldn't make myself go after her, even though my heart was somehow breaking into a million pieces.

I didn't even notice the tears that had silently begun to fall down my cheek until a sob had escaped my chest.

"Why?!" I shrieked without a true purpose as I sank to my knees.

The despair was so strong that I was swallowed into a dark void of nothingness.

"Drriiinnngggg... Drriiinnngggg... Drriiinnngggg!" The alarm clock went off and I grumbled as I woke up to turn it off.

Turning it off finally, I took to rubbing my eyes open. Then I felt the dampness on my cheeks and realized that I had actually cried outside my dream to. That had never happened before!

"Ugh!" I said as I got up from the bed and started for my drawers to look for my clothes this morning.

I found a nice pink shirt and black vest that I slipped on. Then I managed to find some black skinny jeans that I deemed acceptable with the rest of my attire. After I had slipped those on, I went on to brushing my hair into a suitable style. Once I was done with that, I had to look for my shoes...

"Damnit!" I cursed when I realized that I couldn't remember were my shoes where.

I began searching for them, and I finally found them! Just as I straightened up from where I had found them. I found myself looking right outside my bedroom window. I was on the second floor so I could see everything on the street...

Including the lone figure walking up the street towards the other street where my bus stop would be. The figure seemed oddly familiar...

"Oh my god!" I shrieked as I finally realized who it was, "Victoria Saul!"

I clapped my hands over my mouth as if to take back that name.

She looked up to my bedroom window as if she'd heard my exclamation!
