"Ugh"- Me

Luca🖤

"- and she was like, ew no Carter, like what did I ever do to her..." Carter carried on about some girl that rejected him.

Carter was Luca's childhood friend. They grew up in the same area, and their parents were also friends. He's your typical idiot and 'ladies' man'. This kid gave Luca significant headaches, but he had his moments. He was one of the few people Luca talked to while being homeschooled.

Luca didn't care about what he was talking about, though. He was looking for Melody; why did she leave? Did she know how to get to class? To the cafeteria? Luca probably should have done a better job of showing her around.

He dismissed the thought but continued to look for her. He saw her sitting down with an Asian girl he recognized slightly from Freshman year. Her name was something weird like a color.

He remembered why he was looking for her and smirked; this would be fun. Luca grabbed Carter from a table of girls and started walking towards Shortcake.

"Bro, why did you do that? She was so into me-"

"Hey, Shortcake," he grinned, sitting across from her and her friend. Her face turned from a smile from talking to her friend to a deer caught in headlights.

"Hi...Luca-"

"Hey, you're the new girl, right?" Carter asked

"Yea, I'm Melody. Nice to meet you," she replied

"Carter, right back at you. So how did you get stuck with this demon," he joked, poking at Luca's side.

"The vice principal made him show me around," she laughed

"Wait a minute, who is this." Carter grinned. He was talking about the girl next to Melody; Luca just stared at him like he was an idiot.

"This is Hazel; we met at art class. Hazel, Carter, Luca. Carter and Luca, Hazel," she smiled.

"Hey Luca, Carter," she replied, slightly squinting at the blond-ish boy. Luca nodded his head.

"Ohhh Hazel," he dragged on. "I think I've seen you before. How about we-" he started before getting cut off.

"Never, Carter, never." she deadpanned as Shortcake, and Luca laughed; Carter has been rejected many times, but it never gets old. And of course, he can't just take the loss and walk away.

"Come onnnnn, you won't regret it...." he carried on, making Hazel girl roll her eyes. She clearly didn't like him, but Luca couldn't tell if that was just her personality.

"So why did you run away from me, Shortcake?" Luca smirked

"I- I didn't run away. I went to class," she replied, faking indifference.

"I did want to apologize for this morning, though," she added

"For..." he dragged on, smirking.

"For... callingyouanasshole." she rambled. That caught Luca off guard, he wasn't offended, but the apology was nice.

They eventually started a conversation talking about our classes and other topics.

It was finally the end of a surprisingly pleasant first day of school, and Luca had to pick up his little brother. He made his way into the kindergarten until he saw him.

"Bubba!" he squealed, running into his arms as Luca picked him up.

"How was school?" he asked

"It was fun. I made friends and introduced myself!"

"That's great. Tell me all about it when we get home ."

"Ok!" he agreed

Luca began walking out of the school when he saw someone quickly turn around; the boy smirked, knowing who it was.

"I can see you, Shortcake!" he cheekily called behind her. She slowly turned around.

"I can see you too, Luca," she replied, giving him a fake smile.

"So, you're having fun watching me...again?" he smirked. She squinted her eyes at him.

"For the record, I wasn't watching you..." she denied. Luca raised my eyebrows, waiting for her to finish the sentence.

"I was just, just...." she rocked back and forth on her toes, trying to find an answer.

"Pretty..." he heard from beside him. Leo leaped out of Luca'sarms and ran towards Melody.

"Aweeee." Shortcake gleamed, squatting to his height.

"Can you pick him up?" she asked, gaining permission.

"Baby," she dragged out, "how adorable!" she gushed, making him laugh.

"What's your name, signorina?"

"I'm Melody."

"Like the music?"

"I guess." she laughed. "What's your name?"

"My name is Areleo!" he confirmed proudly, using what his teacher had taught him.

"We just call him Leo." Luca clarified, turning Shortcake's attention to him.

"So does that mean you have a secret name, too?" she inquired.

"Maybe, now please return my brother." he deadpanned. Shortcake frowned before handing Leo over.

"Bye, Leo."

"Bye, bye Mely." he waved.

"I don't get a bye?" Luca asked, returning the frown. She smiled before answering.

"Goodbye, Luca." she turned around

"Bye, Shortcake."

After picking putting Leo in his car seat, Luca waited for Leon, and they shortly made their way home. Fortunately, their uncle wasn't home. They never actually knew when he would and wouldn't be home. The only exception was the weekends when he was definitely doing something illegal.

Luca lay on his bed thinking about today, more specifically, Shortcake. She was friendly, like his mother, he thought. This made him think about his parents. The teenage boy thought about how he missed them. He soon realized his mind was rambling, and it was getting late. He thought about going to sleep, and then he did.
