Where, then, is the Kingdom? There is a new world of justice, peace, freedom that Jesus spoke of, that He promised. Where is it? How much injustice, unrest, enslavement has been pursued and committed in the name of gaining this utopia? Whole cities have been torched and bodies tortured and immolated to establish its gates. The misunderstanding of the Kingdom has led to a disregard of the cares and concerns and rights of others, for it has been preached too long that the Kingdom is out there, a place divorced from this reality that will descend from the skies and demolish this order under a physical form of jeweled walls and golden streets. But Jesus plainly said that the Kingdom is within. It has always been within. Its foundation is the compassionate wisdom of the divine essence that resides at the core of us all. Its realisation is in every cup of water given, every kind word, every broken heart comforted.
